The 10 Apps Most Likely to Kill Your Phone Battery

Many people don’t realize it but certain apps drain your battery much faster than others. Some even use your battery in the background when not open. You may want to remove such apps if you don’t use them often.

10. Telegram

Openverse

Telegram is a cloud-based, encrypted instant messaging app that can also share media and files, hold voice or video calls, and public livestreams. But all that power comes at a significant cost to your phone’s battery. This app uses 77% of your phone’s available resources when in operation. It also uses resources in the background when not running.

9. Booking.com & Amazon (tie)

Openverse

Unless you travel frequently, the booking.com app can be downloaded when you need it to use it and removed when you don’t (your data will still be saved). If you don’t shop on Amazon often, you could do the same with that app. But not for frequent Amazon shoppers. Both of these apps use 77% of available resources when operating.

8. Zoom & YouTube (tie)

Opeverse

While Zoom is for conferencing with video and YouTube is for watching videos, the thing they both have in common is that video requires a lot of power to run. As such, both of these apps can utilize 77% of your phone’s available resources when operating. But they also use resources in the background when not running.

7. Snapchat & WhatsApp

Openverse

These highly popular apps allow people to keep in touch through instant messaging, while WhatsApp also features voice-over-IP (VoIP). Both are resource-intensive. When in operation, these apps can consume 77% of your available resources. Even when not in use, they are consuming a significant amount of battery-draining resources in the background.

6. Tinder & Bumble (tie)

Openverse

Both of these dating apps are major battery drainers. When running, each can consume 77% of your phone’s available resources. Because both of these are hybrid dating and networking applications, they also suck up resources in the background. If you already found a steady partner, you may want to delete these and reload them if you ever need them again.

5. Instagram

Openverse

This app is one many people use daily and would be hard for them to give up. Unfortunately, it comes with a high price for your phone’s battery. Instagram swallows up 79% of available resources. Like many social media apps, it continues to chomp away at resources in the background even when it’s not running.

4. Airbnb & BIGO Live (tie)

Openverse

Unless you are constantly taking vacations and booking accommodations, Airbnb is one of those apps you might want to remove from your phone when you don’t need it (the data from the app and your account will be saved). Reload the app when you need to make a booking. Airbnb uses a whopping 82% of available resources.

3. Facebook

Openverse

Like most social media apps, Facebook’s app can run in the background and uses around 11 additional resources, including the 4 most resource-intensive including the microphone, Wi-Fi, locations, and photos. If using chat, it will access your camera. Because of the energy required to operate this app, it puts more strain on your phone’s battery.
