‘My Signing Bonus Is Not That High’: Shedeur Sanders Responds on Buying Browns No. 2 Jersey from DeAndre Carter

Shedeur Sanders’ NFL journey has been filled with attention and expectations, and even now, the spotlight hasn’t dimmed. After being drafted by the Cleveland Browns, Sanders is settling in and preparing for his rookie season. However, there’s one thing he couldn’t bring with him from college; his jersey number.

Sheduer Sanders wore No. 2 during his college career, but upon joining the Browns, he found that wide receiver DeAndre Carter already had the number. When asked if he tried to buy it from Carter, Sanders responded with a laugh.

“Nah, I’m not trying to buy anything. My signing bonus ain’t that high right now,” he told reporters, drawing a laugh from the audience, Sanders said

For many rookies, the jersey number is a meaningful part of their identity. But in this case, Carter has already established himself, making it unlikely he’d give it up.

Shedeur Sanders Looks Forward to a Positive Outcome for 2025

Although many expected Sanders to be picked in the first round of the draft, things didn’t go as planned. Still, the quarterback isn’t letting that hold him back. He’s embraced his situation and is fully focused on proving his worth on the field.

Sanders has been enjoying rookie minicamp and forming solid relationships with teammates.

“Thankful for every player part of our rookie minicamp. Great relationships were made during our time together,” he shared.

As far as his draft position goes, Sanders is already moving on.

My story is going to be similar, you know, I was a late-round draft pick. But we’re here now, so none of that stuff matters; it just mattered on the day,” Sanders said. “I’m just excited to be here and ready to work.”

His goal? Nothing short of a Super Bowl. Sheduer Sanders has made it clear that he wants to help bring a championship to Cleveland. With his talent and drive, the Browns may have found a quarterback hungry to change their fortunes.

According to Pro Grid, the Cleveland Browns are rumored to play against the Minnesota Vikings in week 5 of 2025. The Browns would have their work cut out against a Vikings team stacked with talent.

Kevin Stefanski’s side will have to game plan around stopping 2x All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson. They will also have to contend with veteran running back Aaron Jones and his dual-threat sensibilities.
