Chicago Sky Hit Rock Bottom in Ugly Loss to Storm

The Chicago Sky reached a new low on Thursday night, suffering a humiliating 95-57 loss to the Seattle Storm at Wintrust Arena. The 38-point defeat wasn’t just brutal, it was their worst of the season and their biggest blowout at home.

Chicago Sky beat reporter Karli Bell confirmed that the margin of defeat marked the team’s largest this year. Now sitting at 7-17, Chicago is off to its worst 24-game start since 2006, when they opened 3-21.

It was a night where nothing clicked for Chicago Sky. They shot just 31.1% from the field, turned the ball over 19 times, and were outrebounded 46-30. The team looked disorganized and out-hustled from the opening tip, allowing Seattle to dominate every facet of the game.

Angel Reese Sidelined, Sky Crumble

A major factor in the blowout? Angel Reese didn’t play.

Chicago’s star was ruled out ahead of the game with a back injury, despite showing no signs of trouble during Tuesday’s matchup against the Minnesota Lynx. In that game, Reese posted another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Without her presence on the glass and in the paint, the Sky looked completely out of sync, both offensively and defensively.

The road ahead doesn’t get any easier. On Sunday, the Sky will take on the Indiana Fever in a rivalry matchup. However, that game may be missing star power on both sides. Angel Reese’s status remains uncertain, and Caitlin Clark is also unlikely to play as she continues to recover from a lingering groin injury.

This upcoming matchup could be pivotal for both struggling teams trying to build momentum in the second half of the season. Chicago desperately needs a bounce-back win to stop the slide. And their ability to compete will heavily depend on whether Angel Reese is cleared to return.
