The Chicago Sky fell to 3-8 on the season after a frustrating 79-72 loss to the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night, one that saw the Sky give up a 17-point lead and crumble under pressure.
While Angel Reese recorded another double-double—17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists—she was quick to accept responsibility for the Sky’s collapse after committing a team-high seven turnovers.
“For me, 7 TOs can’t happen. I know I’m trying to make good plays, and I’m looking for the right pass… I gotta be better. That’s on me,” Reese said postgame.
Turnovers Doom the Sky
Despite a dominant first quarter that ended with a 26–11 advantage and a 17-point lead at one point, the Sky’s offense stalled. Chicago led 44–32 at halftime but managed just 28 points in the second half.
The most glaring stat? 25 turnovers, which the Mystics turned into 40 points. Washington also attempted nine more free throws and benefited from a masterclass by Brittney Sykes, who torched Chicago for 32 points on 13-of-24 shooting.
Ongoing Offensive Woes
Turnovers and inefficiency have haunted the Sky all season. The team currently ranks 12th in the WNBA in both points per game and offensive rating, and their defense hasn’t done enough to offset those shortcomings.
This latest loss concludes their Commissioner’s Cup play, and with the Phoenix Mercury (8-4) visiting Chicago on Saturday, the Sky must regroup fast.
Angel Reese’s accountability and production continue to be a bright spot, but until the Sky clean up their execution, wins will remain hard to come by. Saturday’s game is shaping up to be a critical test of resilience for a team still searching for rhythm in the 2024 season.
