The most magical season is upon us! Let’s celebrate by curling up with a good book! Here are 10 recommendations.

10. Practical Magic

Written by Alice Hoffman

Lovers of the 1998 film Practical Magic may not realize that it is actually based on a novel. Though the film deviates a bit from the novel, both mediums share romance, magical themes, and sisterly sentimentality that readers will absolutely adore.

Alice Hoffman is a fantastic writer who tends to prioritize prose over dialogue. If you are looking for a story with a similar vibe but with a bit more dialogue then you’ll love the next book.

Sarah Addison Allen writes books that can only be described as literary antidepressants. Garden Spells was her very first mainstream novel. This book also has some romance and intrigue sprinkled in for the readers who love a little bit of drama.

8. Aradia: or The Gospel of Witches

Written by Charles Godfrey Leland

This book was published back in 1899, and chronicled the legend of Aradia, a deified figure of Italian folklore. The book was written by Charles Godfrey Leland, a humorist and journalist from Pennsylvania, who allegedly constructed the narrative based on oral traditions from Italian magic practitioners. The authenticity of Leland’s sources are dubious to say the least, but the main subject, Aradia, will capture the reader’s attention.

Fun fact: this book played a special role in the creation of Gardnerian Wicca.
