The number of stars who have obtained EGOT status (winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) is small. To date, it’s only 21 people. However, these 30 stars are only one award away from achieving an EGOT.

30. Julie Andrews

Julie Andrews has won 2 Emmys, one in 1973 and another in 2005. She’s also won two Grammys, one in 1965 and another in 2011. Andrews received an Oscar for Best Actress for Mary Poppins in 1964. She received three Tony nominations, in 1957, 1961, and 1996, but has failed to win.

Kate Winslet only needs a Tony award for EGOT. It’s well within her abilities. She won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2008 for The Reader. Winslet won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for Children (Listen to the Storyteller, 2000). She’s won two Emmys: For Mildred Pierce in 2011 and Mare of Easttown in 2021.

28. Lily Tomlin

Lily Tomlin has won an astounding six Emmy awards between 1974 and 2013. She received a Grammy for Best Comedy Recording in 1972. She won two Tony awards, one in 1977 and another in 1986. She’s only missing an Oscar. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the film Nashville in 1976.

The rapper known as Common, real name Lonnie Rashid Lynn, has a long list of artistic accomplishments. He won an Emmy in 2017. He won Grammys in 2003, 2008, and 2016. He won an Oscar for Best Original Song (with John Legend) in 2015 for the song “Glory” from the film Selma. He only needs a Tony.

Cher has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for “Believe” in 2000. She won an Emmy in 2003. Cher won an Oscar for Best Actress for Moonstruck (1988). Despite her performance for Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, she’s missing a Tony.

25. Ron Howard

Actor and director Ron Howard has been in show business practically his entire life. He nabbed his first Grammy with his Beatles film in 2018. Howard has won two Oscars. He has also won five Emmy awards: 1998, 2004, 2008, 2010, and 2022. He only needs a Tony and has never been nominated.

24. Bette Midler

Bette Midler has won three Grammy awards: 1974, 1981, and 1990. She has won two Tony awards, in 1974 in 2017. She has received three Emmys: 1978, 1992, and 1997. Midler is only missing an Oscar. She’s been nominated twice for Best Actress, for The Rose (1979) and For the Boys (1991).

23. Martin Scorsese

Surprisingly, the legendary director Martin Scorsese has only one Oscar to his credit, Best Director for 2006’s The Departed. He has a Grammy for Best Music Film, No Direction Home (2006). He won two Emmys, in 2011 and 2012. Despite the many characters named Tony in his films, he’s never won one. He is only a Tony away from EGOT.

22. Cynthia Nixon

Actress Cynthia Nixon only needs an Oscar to achieve EGOT. Unfortunately, she has never been nominated, but she has plenty of potential. She won Tony awards in 2006 and 2017. Nixon received an Emmy in 2004 and 2008. She also nabbed a Grammy award in 2009 for Best Spoken Word Album, An Inconvenient Truth.

21. Frances McDormand

Frances McDormand only needs a Grammy for EGOT, and she doesn’t have to be a singer to win. A spoken word performance would do it. The talented actress has received three Oscars: In 1997, 2018, and 2021. McDormand won a Tony award in 2011. She won two Emmys in 2015.

20. Jeremy Irons

Actor Jeremy Irons is a Grammy award away from EGOT, and he has come close with a nomination for Best Spoken Word Album in 1985 (along with Glenn Close). He won an Oscar for best actor in 1990. Irons won a Tony for Best Actor in 1984. He has won two Emmy awards, in 1997 and 2006.

19. Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi Lauper only needs to win an Oscar for EGOT, and with 76 acting credits, it’s not out of the realm of possibility. She won an Emmy in 1995. Lauper has received three Grammy awards. She won a pair of Tonys in 2013 for Best Original Score and Outstanding New Score.

British actress and Dame Helen Mirren is a Grammy award away from EGOT. She has won five Emmys: In 1996, 1999, 2006, 2007, and 2022. She won an Oscar for best actress for The Queen in 2007. She won a Tony for Best Actress in a Play in 2015 for The Audience.

17. Al Pacino

Actor extraordinaire Al Pacino is a Grammy award away from EGOT. He was nominated for Best Spoken Word Album in 2001. Pacino won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1992. He won two Tony awards in 1969 and 1977. Pacino also has two Emmy awards from 2004 and 2010.

With 49 acting credits and a 2015 Emmy, it’s surprising that Audra McDonald has yet to be nominated for an Oscar. That’s her only missing piece for an EGOT. She has an astounding six Tony awards: 1994, 1996, 1998, 2004, 2012, and 2014. She received a Grammy award for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording in 2008.

15. Hugh Jackman

Chances are, it won’t be long before Hugh Jackman adds that missing Oscar to achieve EGOT status. He was nominated for Best Actor for Les Misérables (2013). Jackman won a pair of Tony awards in 2004 and 2012. He won a Grammy in 2019. He also won an Emmy in 2005.

All Cynthia Erivo needs for EGOT is a missing Oscar. She was nominated for both Best Actress and Best Original Song for Harriet in 2019. Erivo received an Emmy in 2017. She also won a Grammy in 2017. Erivo took home a Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Musical in 2016.

It’s no surprise that incredibly talented singer Adele has taken home ten Grammy awards between 2009 and 2023. All she needs for EGOT is a Tony, and, with her vocal talent, that’s highly possible. She won an Emmy in 2022. Adele garnered an Oscar for Best Original Song for Skyfall in 2013.

12. Trey Parker and Matt Stone

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are an Oscar away from EGOT. They got close with a nomination for Best Original Song “Blame Canada” in 2000. The duo has received five Emmy awards. They won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album in 2012. They won four Tony awards in 2011 for The Book of Mormon.

11. Randy Newman

Songwriting legend Randy Newman only needs a Tony for EGOT, and with his vast song catalog, it’s more than possible. Between 1984 and 2017, Newman won an astounding seven Grammy awards. He has received three Emmy awards. Newman also won two Oscars in 2001 (Monsters, Inc.) and 2010 (Toy Story 3).

10. Geoffrey Rush

Australian actor Geoffrey Rush only needs a Grammy award for an EGOT. That could be achieved through a spoken word Grammy. Rush won an Emmy in 2005. He received an Oscar for Best Actor for Shine in 1996. Rush won a Tony in 2019 for Exit the King. Rush has also taken home two Golden Globes and three BAFTAs.

9. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr

The two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, are a Tony award away from EGOT. With their songs in Broadway shows, it’s more than possible. They won an Emmy for 2022’s The Beatles: Get Back. Between 1965 and 2014, the pair took home eleven Grammys. McCartney and Starr received an Oscar for Let It Be in 1971.

8. Jessica Lange

Actress Jessica Lange is a Grammy award away from EGOT. She has never been nominated. However, she received three Emmy awards in 2009, 2012, and 2014. Lange received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1982 (Tootsie) and Best Actress in 1994 (Blue Sky). She took home a Tony award in 2016.

7. John Williams

Legendary composer John Williams, 93, has the most Academy Award nominations of any living person at 54. He took home Oscars in 1972, 1976, 1978, 1983, and 1994. Between 1976 and 2024, Williams won an astonishing 26 Grammys out of 76 nominations. He won three out of six Emmy awards. Unbelievably, Williams has never been nominated for a Tony.

Actor and singer Ben Platt received a Tony in 2017 for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Dear Evan Hansen. In 2018, he won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for Dear Evan Hansen and a Grammy for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program. Despite 32 acting credits, Platt lacks an Oscar nomination.

5. Eminem

Rapper Eminem is only a Tony away from EGOT. Perhaps 8 Mile: The Musical will happen. Eminem is the most Grammy-winning rapper in history, taking home 15 Grammys out of 44 nominations. He won an Emmy in 2022 for Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Eminem took home an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Lose Yourself” from 8 Mile in 2003.

4. Rachel Bay Jones

Actress and singer Rachel Bay Jones is one good role away from an Oscar and EGOT. Her Emmy (2018), Grammy (2018), and Tony (2017) are all related to her performances in the musical Dear Evan Hansen. In the last decade, she’s done a lot of TV work. She’ll need some big-screen gigs if she wants to achieve EGOT.

3. Ellen Burstyn

Ellen Burstyn, 91, has played many complex roles throughout her career. She won a Tony in 1975 for the play Same Time, Next Year. Burstyn won an Oscar for Best Actress in 1979 for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. She won two Emmy awards, in 2009 and 2013. Perhaps a spoken word work will garner her that missing Grammy award.

2. H.E.R.

Singer, songwriter, and composer H.E.R., is also known by her real name Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson. Between 2019 and 2022, she took home five Grammy awards. She won an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2021. In 2022, she won an Emmy for Outstanding Short Form Program. The twenty-seven-year-old has more than enough time to create a work that will yield a Tony and achieve EGOT.

Songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez is the wife of her writing partner Robert Lopez, who has EGOT. She is only a Tony away. Kristen was nominated for the Broadway musical version of Frozen in 2018. She won two Oscars for Frozen in 2014 and Coco in 2017. She won an Emmy in 2015 for WandaVision and a Grammy for Frozen.
