As though going to the Olympics and winning medals wasn’t enough, these 10 athletes also have genuinely unbelievable resumes that would be impressive for anybody. How can someone be at the peak of athletic achievement and be a rocket scientist? Here are ten Olympians with unbelievable careers.
Sunny Choi
Breakdancer Sunny Choi has an undergraduate degree University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. She was the director of global creative operations for Estée Lauder until she found out that breaking would be an event during the Paris Olympics and quit her day job to pursue Olympic glory as part of Team USA.
Quincy Wilson
Track and field athlete Quincy Wilson is only 16, but he’s already making huge waves in his sport. The Washington Post called him the Athlete of the Year for the Washington, D.C. area. His sophomore year in high school, he earned straight A’s on his report card. Oh, and he’s going to the Olympics as part of Team USA’s track and field cohort. Just normal 16-year-old things, you know.
Michelee Sechser
Rower Michille Sechser was hesitant to start her career while she was part of Team USA’s rowing squad. However, she’s since learned that she can maintain her professional career while still putting in the work to be a world-class rower. She’s now on the client success team for Broadridge Financial Solutions, which she says helps her divide her athletic pursuits from her daily life.
Gabby Thomas
Track and field athlete Gabby Thomas is an academic powerhouse as well as an Olympic medalist. She won a bronze medal in an individual event as well as a silver medal during a team contest. She also graduated from Harvard with a degree in neurobiology and earned her master’s degree from the University of Texas in public health!
LeBron James
It’s no surprise that LeBron James is on Team USA for the men’s basketball competition, given his exemplary career in the NBA. He’s also a shrewd businessman who owns a stake in Fenway Sports Club, which means he’s the majority owner of teams like the Red Sox, Penguins, and Liverpool FC. He also plans to own the NBA’s upcoming Las Vegas team.
Canyon Barry
Canyon Barry, the son of hall of fame basketball player Rick Barry, played college basketball at the College of Charleston and the University of Florida. He’ll participate in the upcoming Olympics as part of Team USA in men’s 3×3 basketball. Barry is also an engineer at aerospace company L3Harris!
Jesse Grupper
Olympic climber Jesse Grupper worked in robotics lab full time until very recently. He’s had to temporarily walk away from his career to focus on his training regimen, preparing for his turn on the world stage in Paris this summer.
Kelsey Bing
Kelsey Bing, a guidance, navigation, and control engineer at Joby Aviation, is also a world-class women’s field hockey player. She’s a goaltender by night and an engineer by day, helping create cargo planes that can fly without the need for human pilots. She’s even worked on contracts for the US Air Force!

Jourdan Delacruz
Weightlifter Jourdan Delacruz started Her Athlete, a sports nutrition and performance research company that is aimed at addressing the gap between female and male athletes with regard to nutrition. The two-time Olympian is also going for her bachelor’s degree in nutrition from the University of Northern Colorado.

Hans Henken
Hans Henken, an Olympic sailor, is also an astronaut. While that might sound like a hyperbolic joke resume from a sitcom character, it’s true. He studied aerospace engineering at Stanford and earned a master’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering.
