10 Ways to Upgrade Your Morning Coffee

Drinking your morning coffee is supposed to be relaxing (never mind the caffeine buzz you will have about a half hour after you drink it). But did you know you can take that experience to the next level? Here are 10 ways to upgrade your morning coffee.

Try Different Beans

You shouldn’t limit yourself to the same coffee every single time you go to the grocery store. Add some variety to your coffee by trying different beans and different flavors. You don’t have to break the bank when trying new flavors either. Something good could be out there and it could be cheap!

Store Your Coffee Properly

It is important to make sure you store your coffee properly. The beans should go in an airtight container and be placed in a dark, dry, and cool place. Do not put your coffee in the freezer or have it near hot appliances. Coffee beans taste best within a month of purchase and ground coffee tastes best within two weeks of purchase.

Find a Good Grinder

If you want your coffee to have the best flavor, then you should take the time to grind it on your own. You can buy manual or electric grinders, but you might have to adjust the settings on the electric ones. Know that grind size is important because it will determine how fast the water will go through your coffee and if it’s weak or strong.

Make Sure You Measure Your Ground Coffee

Measuring your coffee will affect the flavor you will have when your coffee is brewed. If the ratio of water to beans is off, you will possibly get weak coffee or thick coffee. It’s okay to measure how much coffee you will need compared to how much water you need for your coffee maker. It is better to take the time to make sure your ratios are good so you can have the best coffee!

Make Sure You Use Clean Water

When making your coffee, it is best to have clean water. This means your water should be either distilled bottled water or filtered tap water. Regular unfiltered tap water is not the best and will not give you the taste you are looking for. Clean water gives you the best tasting coffee!

Try Different Brewing Techniques

Brewing coffee is not a one-size-fits-all method. You can brew many different ways, such as using the standard drip dry coffee maker, pour-over style, or a French press. Some of these options might not be as fast as the other, but that’s okay because it is worth it to have good coffee.

Make Sure Your Equipment Is Clean

It is best to make sure you clean your coffee equipment. As time goes on, any leftover coffee residue will make your coffee not taste so great. It is best to check with the manufacturer of your brewing machine to know how to properly clean it.

This is probably a given, but drinking old coffee is going to taste bad. If you have it sitting out in the coffee pot, chances are it is going to turn bitter after sitting for a long time. A pro tip: put your coffee in the fridge so you can have yourself some iced coffee!
