The 10 Most Overrated Sports Cars of All Time

Just because a sports car is overrated, doesn’t mean it is bad. Some excellent pieces of machinery are overrated simply by being hyped up as doing more than they achieve. Here are the 10 most overrated sports cars.

10. Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar named the F-Type after its most famous model ever, the E-Type. This led to a lot of hype about the vehicle being overrated. Nonetheless, it’s not a bad car, and it blends luxury with impressive power. But there are sports cars that drive better and are more reliable, such as the Porsche Cayman or the Alpine a110.

9. Ferrari 488 GTB

While it’s true that the Ferrari 488 GTB is faster than the 458, its best quality ends there. Other than that, the vehicle offered nothing revolutionary over the 458 Italia it replaced. Despite being turbocharged and more powerful for true gearheads and enthusiasts, the 488 GTB failed to offer anything else interesting. It’s overrated.

8. Bugatti Veyron

When the Bugatti Veyron debuted, it was the fastest street-legal car on the planet. I delivered 1000 horsepower. But it only hits its top speed in a straight line. The Veyron’s steering on the track was weak due to weight-balancing issues. Its unimpressive track performance makes it an overrated vehicle.

7. Lotus Evora

Lotus always made super-lightweight cars with fantastic handling and made sacrifices on cabin comforts and features. The Lotus Evora was once the most expensive model. However, it was the opposite of the brand’s prior philosophy, trading off features and luxuries for precision in handling. Owners reported lots of quality issues like cracked panels and the clutch master cylinder failing.

6. Mercedes-Benz SLC

Don’t mistake the Mercedes-Benz SLC for a cheaper SL Roadster, which was discontinued over four years ago. The more expensive SL is a far better choice. The 2011-2019 SLC models are pretty much unchanged. They are cramped, and the cabin is dated. The rival Audi TT Roadster is considerably better in terms of ride quality and handling.

5. Fiat 124 Spider

The Fiat 124 Spider is actually a great car and one of the few affordable Italian roadsters out there. However, it’s based on the Mazda Miata, and aside from the exterior design, nothing is different. In some aspects, the Spider is worse off than the Miata. It doesn’t feel as sharp as the Miata or offer nearly as many options.

4. Toyota GT86

The Toyota GT86 is an impressive starter for first-time sports car drivers, but it’s overhyped. The GT86 goes from 0-60 in 6.6 seconds, which is nice but far from impressive. It has a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that cranks out 228 horsepower. There are far faster vehicles to spend your money on.

3. Nissan R35 GT-R

In 2008, when the Nissan R35 GT-R debuted, it was one of the best sports cars available. The R35 generated close to 500 hp thanks to one of the best V6 engines ever made. But now, 16 years later, it’s overrated. It’s simply one more sports car in a market filled with impressive offerings.

Undoubtedly, the Nissan 370Z is a great car. However, this successor to the iconic 350Z offers nothing more than minor changes in looks and power. Experts say it’s overrated as a used sports car and outdated in many ways. They advise spending your cash on the new Z car instead.

1. Bugatti Chiron

It is true that the Bugatti Chiron is one of the fastest road-legal cars in the world. Despite that advantage, it retains the problems of its predecessors. It’s meant only to be driven in a straight line. The tires only last 50-100 miles, which means you won’t be able to actually drive it fast. It has a limited range.
