The 20 Best Formula One Tracks, Ranked

Formula One racing is a global sport with outstanding and challenging tracks throughout the world. There are 24 F1-hosting venues across 21 countries and five continents. Here is a ranking of the 20 Best F1 tracks.

20. Las Vegas Strip Circuit, United States (November 23)

The 3.853-mile course hosted the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix for 50 laps. The track initially featured 14 corners, but later, a chicane was added to increase the corners to 17. The track runs around parts of Paradise, Nevada, adjacent to Las Vegas. It also winds through city streets, including around the Las Vegas strip, major hotels, and casinos. 

19. Shanghai International Circuit, China (April 21)

The Shanghai International Circuit is home to the Chinese Grand Prix, last held in 2024 and won by Netherlands driver Max Verstappen for Red Bull Racing-Honda RBPT. Drivers complete 56 laps on the 3.387-mile course through Shanghai. One of the most demanding is a 270-degree, right-handed corner combination at turns 1 and 2, whose radius decreases as the corner progresses.

18. Losail International Circuit, Qatar (December 1)

The Losail International Circuit in Qatar is a 3.367-mile course consisting of 16 turns. The fastest lap was completed by Max Verstappen in 2023, timed at 1:24.319. To keep sand off the track it’s surrounded by artificial grass. The biggest challenge is the heat, which led to the Qatar Grand Prix moving from October to a December slot for 2024.

17. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain (June 23)

Home to the Spanish Grand Prix and other events, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been run with and without a chicane since 2021. Max Verstappen set the lap records in 2021 and 2023. With a chicane, the course runs 2.9 miles and features 16 turns, and without, it has 14 turns and runs 2.89 miles. The stands accommodate 140,700 spectators.

16. Hungaroring, Hungary (July 21)

Home to the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Hungaroring has a twisty and bumpy nature that makes the 2.722-mile course difficult in dry conditions. Spin the home to several memorable races and duals. The course features 14 turns. British driver Lewis Hamilton set the lap record in 2020 with a time of 1:16.627.

15. Albert Park Circuit, Australia (March 24)

Home to the 58-lap Australian Grand Prix and other events, the Albert Park Circuit was modified in 2021 to a slightly shorter length of 3.280 miles and fewer turns to 14. Monégasque racing driver Charles Leclerc set the lap record in 2024 for Ferrari with a time of 1:19.813 but finished second to fellow Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz Jr.

14. Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain (March 2)

A 3.363-mile course featuring 15 turns and home to the Bahrain Grand Prix. The lap record was set by Pedro de la Rosa for McLaren in 2005 with a time of 1:31.447. Max Verstappen won the 2024 Grand Prix, had the pole position, and set the fastest lap. This circuit is regarded as one of the safest in the world.

13. Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore (September 22)

Home to the Singapore Grand Prix, this 3.070-mile course was revised in 2023. It features 19 turns and runs along the harbor. Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap in 2024 at 1:34.486. Until 2024, this circuit had at least one safety car appearance in every race, with 24 deployments in 15 races. A 2022 upgrade reduced the porpoising effect.

12. Circuit of The Americas, Austin (October 20)

Home to the F1 US Grand Prix, NASCAR’s Texas Grand Prix, and other events. The course runs 3.426 miles and features 20 turns. The lap record of 1:36.169 was set in 2019 by Charles Leclerc. Max Verstappen won the last 56-lap race held in 2023. Over 440,000 spectators attended the three-day 2022 Grand Prix, setting a record.

11. Circuit Zandvoort, Netherlands (August 25)

Since 2020, after a slight modification, the Circuit Zandvoort has featured a course length of 2.646 miles and 14 turns. The Dutch Grand Prix returned in 2021, and Lando Norris won the 2024 race. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in 2021 at 1:11.097. Turns 3 and 13-14 are extremely cambered corners, with 19-degree and 18-degree banks, respectively.

10. Red Bull Ring, Austria (June 30)

Formerly the Österreichring, it was purchased and renamed by Red Bull and reopened in 2011. Home to the Austrian Grand Prix, the 2.683-mile course has been in its present form since 2016 and features ten turns. Carlos Sainz Jr. set the fastest lap in 2020 at 1:05.619. British driver George Russell won the 2024 Grand Prix for Mercedes.

9. Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Canada (June 9)

Located on Notre Dame Island in Montréal, Québec, since 2002, the course has spanned 2.710 miles and features 14 turns. It’s home to the Canadian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen won the 2024 race. Valtteri Bottas set the fastest lap for Mercedes in 2019 at 1:13.078. It’s known for its challenging Senna ‘S’ turns and 180° hairpin curve at turn 10.

8. Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Italy (May 19)

The name translates to Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit. It’s also known as the Imola Circuit. Home to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Max Verstappen won the 2024 event, capturing his third victory there. The circuit runs 3.05 miles for 63 laps. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap on the Grand Prix circuit in 2020 at 1:15.484

7. Baku City Circuit, Azerbaijan (September 15)

Home to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix since 2016, the course runs 3.73 miles and features 20 turns. Charles Leclerc set the fastest lap record in 2019 at 1:43.009. It is the fourth-longest Formula One circuit. Some drivers consider it one of the most dangerous despite fulfilling all safety requirements. Oscar Piastri won the 2024 Grand Prix, with Leclerc taking second.

6. Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Brazil (November 3)

Better known as Autódromo de Interlagos or Interlagos Circuit, since 1999, the Grand Prix course has spanned 2.677 miles and features 15 turns. Valtteri Bottas set the fastest lap record in 2018 at 1:10.540. It’s home to the 71-lap Brazilian Grand Prix. Turns 1-2 are a Senna S. Turn 10 has a tight hairpin. Max Verstappen won the 2023 event. 

5. Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy (September 1)

Home of the Italian Grand Prix, and since 2000, the all-asphalt course has stretched 3.6 miles and features 11 turns. It’s mostly comprised of long straights and high-speed corners, and as such, it’s become known as “The Temple of Speed.” Rubens Barrichello set the fastest lap in 2004 at 1:21.046. Charles Leclerc won the 53-lap 2024 race.

4. Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium (July 28)

Spa has hosted the Belgian Grand Prix since 1925. Since 2007, the current circuit layout spans 4.352 miles and features 19 turns. Sergio Pérez set the fastest lap record in 2024 at 1:44.701, while Lewis Hamilton won. After a fatal crash in 2019 and incidents in 2021, Major safety changes were made for the 2022 season.

3. Silverstone Circuit, United Kingdom (July 7)

Home of the British Grand Prix since 2011, the new “arena” layout has spanned 3.661 miles and features 18 turns. It’s a fast course, where speeds average 145 mph for F1. Max Verstappen set the fastest lap record in 2020 at 1:27.097. Lewis Hamilton won the 52-lap race in 2024, breaking Michael Schumacher’s single-circuit win record with nine Silverstone victories. 

2. Circuit de Monaco, Monaco (May 26)

Running through Monte Carlo and La Condamine around the harbor, it hosts the 78-lap Monaco Grand Prix. The 19-turn course runs 2.074 miles, with tight corners, many elevation changes, and a tunnel. It’s one of the most demanding F1 circuits. Despite low average speeds, it’s dangerous. Charles Leclerc won in 2024. Lewis Hamilton has the fastest lap record at 1:12.909.

Home to the 53-lap Japanese Grand Prix, since 2003, the circuit has spanned 3.608 miles and features 18 turns. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap record in 2019 at 1:30.983. Max Verstappen won the 2024 event. Michael Schumacher holds the record for most victories at the course with six. The Suzuka circuit was modified for safety in 2003.
