WNBA Rookie Released After Playing Just Two Games

Bree Hall’s Short WNBA Stint Ends in Golden State

Bree Hall’s WNBA journey hit a pause on Monday as the Golden State Valkyries announced her release after just two appearances. The move came as the expansion team welcomed back key international players Cecilia Zandalasini and Janelle Salaun from the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 tournament.

Hall, a rookie guard, averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game during her brief stint with the Valkyries. Her final appearance came in a limited five-minute role against the Seattle Storm, where she went scoreless.

From South Carolina Star to WNBA Roster Cut

Before making the leap to the pros, Hall played four seasons under legendary coach Dawn Staley at South Carolina, where she became a reliable starter for the Gamecocks in her final two years. She averaged 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game during her college career and was known for her perimeter defense and basketball IQ.

Hall also had a short preseason run with the Indiana Fever, briefly sharing the court with rising stars like Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston before landing in Golden State.

Valkyries Adjust Roster With Return of Key Players

The release was largely a result of a roster crunch, not performance. With Zandalasini and Salaun rejoining the team following their EuroBasket duties, the Valkyries needed to open space on the active roster. The team expressed gratitude to Hall in a social media post, writing, “Thank you, Bree.”

As the Valkyries continue to navigate their inaugural WNBA season, moves like this highlight the challenges of maintaining roster flexibility amid overlapping international commitments.
