Why Travis Hunter Will Outshine Every Rookie in 2025

The buzz surrounding Travis Hunter, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, keeps growing. And now NFL analysts are predicting he’ll be the top rookie receiver in the league this year. Why? Because Hunter isn’t just a talented prospect, he’s a game-changer.

Known for his two-way dominance at Colorado, Hunter dazzled scouts with elite production as both a cornerback and wide receiver. But in Jacksonville, under new head coach Liam Coen, Hunter will primarily focus on offense — and the expectations are sky-high. Experts project him to lead all NFL rookies in targets, and possibly in receiving yards, too.

Why Travis Hunter Could Dominate in Jacksonville

Hunter’s college stat line already gives a glimpse into what’s possible: a 24% targets-per-route-run rate, one of the highest in his draft class. In the Jaguars’ pass-heavy scheme, that number is expected to translate into immediate opportunities. With Trevor Lawrence under center and limited target competition aside from Brian Thomas Jr., Hunter is in a prime position to become the No. 1 option by midseason.

Projections from NFL insiders suggest Hunter will command a 19% target share and run routes on at least 75% of offensive plays. That’s elite usage for any rookie, and a clear sign that Jacksonville intends to feature him in a major way.

Coach Coen’s offensive system, built around motion, spacing, and YAC (yards after catch) potential, fits Hunter’s explosive style perfectly. His route-running precision, burst off the line, and ability to create separation make him a nightmare for defenders, and a dream for fantasy owners.

Bleacher Report: Hunter Could Lead All Rookies in Receiving Yards

According to Moe Moton of Bleacher Report, Hunter is projected to post 1,014 receiving yards in his rookie season, more than any other first-year receiver in 2025. His closest competition? Tetairoa McMillan of the Carolina Panthers, with a projected 821 yards.

Even with some talk of Hunter seeing occasional defensive snaps, the experts agree: his offensive upside is simply too high to ignore. If he stays healthy and keeps up the momentum, Hunter could not only lead rookies, he might even make a case for a Pro Bowl nod in Year 1.

Do you think Travis Hunter will live up to the hype in Jacksonville? For me personally, I really do. But let me know your thoughts in the comments, and don’t forget to follow for more NFL rookie watch updates!
