Top Golfers Withdraw Before Wyndham Championship

Wyndham Championship Field Shifts After Key Withdrawals

Just days after the 3M Open wrapped up with Kurt Kitayama claiming his second PGA Tour win, this week’s Wyndham Championship has already taken an unexpected turn. Multiple players have suddenly withdrawn from the final regular-season event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, changing the competitive landscape.

The most surprising exit comes from Wyndham Clark, who tied for 12th at the 3M Open and vaulted into 48th place in the FedEx Cup standings. Clark’s withdrawal likely stems from securing his spot in next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, the playoff opener. Still, fans were caught off guard by his decision to sit out.

More Names Exit, Replacements Step In

Clark isn’t the only golfer skipping the Wyndham. Jhonattan Vegas, Jeremy Paul, and Mackenzie Hughes also opted out, allowing alternates to step into the spotlight.

Filling the gaps are:

  • Thomas Rosenmueller
  • Cristóbal del Solar
  • Trevor Cone
  • Pierceson Coody
  • Chesson Hadley
  • Braden Thornberry (who replaced Hughes on Monday)

These replacements will now get a rare chance to make a mark heading into the high-stakes playoff stretch.

Still Plenty of Star Power in the Field

Despite the withdrawals, this week’s event at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina is far from depleted. Rickie Fowler, a fan favorite, will have home-course energy behind him, while Kitayama looks to build on last week’s win.

Also in the field is Keegan Bradley, recently named captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team. With playoff implications on the line, tensions and competition will be high from the first tee shot on Thursday.
