Rory McIlroy Looks Nearly Unrecognizable at Scottish Open

Rory McIlroy made headlines ahead of the 2025 Scottish Open, but not for his golf swing—this time, it was his dramatic new look. The four-time major winner turned heads during Wednesday’s practice round at The Renaissance Club, debuting a near buzz cut that left fans doing a double take.

The DP World Tour snapped and posted a photo of McIlroy’s fresh trim with the caption, “Rory’s fresh cut,” sparking a wave of reactions online. Long known for his signature curly hair, McIlroy’s style change comes just before he tees off Today at 7:40 a.m. ET (1:25 p.m. local time) alongside Justin Rose and Shane Lowry.

Can Rory McIlroy Bounce Back at The Renaissance Club?

McIlroy enters the tournament with three wins in 2025—Pebble Beach, The Players, and the Masters. But has faltered since his Augusta triumph. He tied for 47th at the PGA Championship, missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open, and settled for 19th at the U.S. Open.

Still, McIlroy has shown strong form at the Scottish Open in recent years. He won the 2023 edition at 15-under and followed that with a T4 finish in 2024. That experience, and a refreshed appearance may give the Northern Irishman the spark he needs.

The 36-year-old has often expressed his love for returning to the U.K. golf scene. North Berwick’s Renaissance Club has been kind to him in recent years, and McIlroy will be looking to channel that positive energy into another strong showing this weekend.

Whether it’s the haircut or the history, all eyes will be on Rory McIlroy as he chases another Scottish Open title and builds momentum for the final major of the season.
