LeBron James Staying in L.A. for 23rd NBA Season
LeBron James has officially exercised his $52.6 million player option to return to the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2025-26 season. Marking his record-setting 23rd year in the NBA. Despite weeks of buzz surrounding his future, his longtime agent Rich Paul has delivered a definitive answer.
During an appearance on The TylilShow Live, Paul confirmed there’s no Lakers trade coming: “No. The man has a no-trade clause, end of story. It’s up to him if he wants to get traded,” Paul stated firmly.
Why Trade Rumors Persisted
Speculation had run wild throughout the offseason, especially with the Lakers recently pivoting toward Luka Doncic as the franchise’s long-term centerpiece. The team signed Doncic to a three-year, $165 million extension through 2028, and also brought in Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton, moves that signal they’re ready to win now, not rebuild.
Still, many wondered whether James would choose to finish his career elsewhere. He had been linked to possible moves to the Cavaliers, Mavericks, Warriors, and even the Knicks. But Paul’s remarks on James’ no-trade clause and his commitment to staying shut that door.

The Lakers’ recent roster moves suggest they’re determined to give him one more shot at a title. With Doncic sharing the court alongside James, the 2025-26 season promises to be one of the most compelling yet.
Since joining the Lakers, LeBron James has led the team to an NBA title in 2020, surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the league’s all-time leading scorer, and earned multiple All-NBA honors. While the future beyond 2026 remains uncertain, one thing is clear, LeBron isn’t finished yet.
