Red Sox Alex Bregman Could Be the Biggest Name on the Trade Market This Summer

The Boston Red Sox are sitting at 29-33, and their season is quickly approaching a turning point. Rumors are already swirling around Jarren Duran, who’s drawn interest from the San Diego Padres. But now, Alex Bregman may be next on the trade block.

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Snyder, “the biggest and most intriguing name is Alex Bregman.” And given his recent form and contract situation, he might also be the most valuable trade chip on the market.

Bregman’s Contract and Comeback Season

After a long offseason in free agency, Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston, but it comes with a key detail: an opt-out clause after this season. If the Red Sox continue to hover around .500, and Bregman continues to produce at a high level, a trade might be Boston’s smartest play.

Before his recent injury, Bregman was slashing an impressive .299/.385/.553, his best numbers since finishing second in MVP voting in 2019. If he opts out at year’s end, the Red Sox could lose him for nothing. A trade now could bring back valuable prospects and help shape the next core in Boston.

Red Sox Face Crucial Decision at Deadline

While Boston’s brass isn’t eager to hit the panic button, the clock is ticking. If the team falls further out of the postseason picture, it would be hard to justify holding on to Alex Bregman, especially with multiple contenders likely willing to pay up for a playoff-tested bat.

For now, Bregman remains sidelined, but his name will be front and center if Boston’s struggles continue. The combination of performance, contract flexibility, and playoff experience could make him the headline deal of the summer.

If the Red Sox are still below .500 by July, Alex Bregman’s days in Boston could be numbered. Whether it’s San Diego or another contender, teams will be calling. And with a chance to sell high, Boston may be forced to listen.
