15 Quarterbacks Who Faded After One Injury

Some quarterbacks bounce back from injury like nothing ever happened. Others, well, not so much. Sometimes it’s a devastating hit, as simple as a knee tweak, but the aftermath leaves them a shell of their former selves.

Whether it was physical decline, loss of confidence, or teams simply moving on, these quarterbacks never quite recaptured their magic. From rising stars to established vets, here are 15 QBs who faded fast after just one big injury.

15. Daunte Culpepper

Culpepper was tearing up the league until a brutal knee injury derailed everything. He tried to come back, but he never looked like the same guy again.

14. Sam Bradford

Bradford had all the tools, but his knees couldn’t keep up with the hype. After one too many injuries, teams gave up waiting for a full season to pass.

13. Robert Griffin III

RG3’s rookie season was electric, and then came that playoff game. The injury altered his style, and he never quite regained his groove.

12. Marcus Mariota

Mariota had moments of brilliance, but a leg injury cut into his development. He faded into backup roles and never reclaimed the starting spotlight.

11. Jake Locker

Locker had toughness and potential, but injuries kept piling up. Eventually, he just called it quits way earlier than anyone expected.

Teddy’s horrific knee injury was the stuff of nightmares. He made a comeback, but that early spark never fully returned.

Moore showed real promise when given the chance, but a nasty concussion halted his rise. After that, he was primarily a stopgap backup.

8. Byron Leftwich

Leftwich was a solid starter with a cannon arm, but leg injuries took away his mobility. He hung around the league, but never again as “the guy.”

7. Josh Freeman

Freeman’s career took a quick turn after shoulder issues and some locker room turbulence. He was out of the league almost as fast as he rose.

6. Kyle Orton

Orton quietly put together a respectable career, but a collarbone injury in Buffalo stalled his momentum. He never really got another accurate starting shot after that.

5. Drew Bledsoe

Bledsoe’s injury opened the door for a guy named Tom Brady. He came back, but the torch had already been passed.

4. Trent Green

A crushing concussion essentially ended Green’s effectiveness. He tried to return, but the hits just kept coming.

3. Carson Palmer

Palmer was never quite the same after suffering a knee injury in the playoff game in Cincinnati. He had a resurgence in Arizona, but the magic he had early on never fully came back.
