15 Quarterbacks Who Made Enemies in Every NFL Stadium

Quarterbacks are the face of the franchise—glorified when they win, villainized when they don’t. And some of them have managed to tick off just about every fan base in the league, either by their attitude, dominance, or sheer knack for stirring up drama.

Whether it was excessive celebrating, controversial comments, or just making a habit of torching a team on Sundays, these quarterbacks weren’t exactly greeted with warm hugs outside their home stadiums. From all-time greats to all-time agitators, here are 15 quarterbacks who made enemies everywhere they went.

15. Carson Palmer

Leaving Cincinnati wasn’t the issue—it was how he left that rubbed people the wrong way. Then he went to Arizona and helped take care of a few old rivals, to twist the knife.

14. Matt Cassel

He wasn’t good enough to be a true villain, but he somehow still caught flak from every direction. Maybe it was the “I replaced Tom Brady and flamed out everywhere else” energy that didn’t sit right.

13. Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fitzmagic was fun, but it came with a side of chaos that annoyed just about every team he briefly joined. His journeyman career meant he made cameo appearances in rivalries all across the NFL.

12. Philip Rivers

He trash-talked like he was the lovechild of Ric Flair and a church deacon. Opposing fans couldn’t stand him, especially since he did it all without swearing.

11. Cam Newton

His Superman celebrations and dab-heavy antics drove traditionalists insane. Add in a few postgame soundbites and a love-it-or-hate-it fashion sense, and Cam was Public Enemy No. 1 in a lot of cities.

10. Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler’s resting smirk alone could spark boos in a silent room. Whether it was Chicago, Denver, or Miami, fans always seemed eager to turn on him, and he never seemed to care.

9. Baker Mayfield

From planting flags to calling out other players, Baker entered the league with a chip on his shoulder and a bullhorn in his hand. That kind of energy doesn’t win you many friends on the road.

8. Michael Vick

Vick’s electric play wowed crowds, but the off-field controversy surrounding him led to sustained boos and protests for years. Even his late-career comeback couldn’t fully erase the hostility.

7. Johnny Manziel

Johnny Football showed up loud, flashy, and full of promise—and imploded just as spectacularly. He managed to annoy opposing fans even when he wasn’t starting.

6. Ben Roethlisberger

Whether it was his playing style, his legal issues, or just being a constant thorn in a division rival’s side, Big Ben was not exactly beloved outside of Pittsburgh. He got booed in every stadium—and probably expected it.

5. Aaron Rodgers

Some call it confidence, others call it smugness. Either way, Rodgers has always had a way of turning even neutral fans against him.

4. Deshaun Watson

Watson’s talent once earned applause, but that quickly shifted amid his off-field legal issues. Now he’s met with a wave of boos just about anywhere he goes.

3. Eli Manning

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (10) waves to the fans as he exits the field at MetLife Stadium for possibly the last time in his career. The Eagles defeat the Giants, 34-17, on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, in East Rutherford. Nyg Vs Phi

Eli was never flashy, but he had a knack for ruining other teams’ seasons, twice on the biggest stage. He may not have tried to be hated, but beating the Patriots twice in the Super Bowl will do the trick.

Mahomes is dominant, confident, and always in commercials—an unstoppable combo for cultivating some deep fan resentment. His success and the Chiefs’ rise have made him a marked man in every stadium.

No one in NFL history has been booed more consistently or more passionately than Brady. The rings, the winning, the “TB12” brand—he became the ultimate road villain in every possible way.
