Patrick Mahomes’ Lesser-Known Brother Gets NFL Opportunity With Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are exploring whether another Mahomes can make an impact on their roster — this time in the form of Graham Walker, the lesser-known half-brother of Patrick Mahomes.

Walker, who shares the same father as the Super Bowl MVP quarterback, has earned an invite to the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp — a golden opportunity to prove himself on football’s biggest stage. While Jackson Mahomes often draws attention for non-football headlines, Graham is now turning heads the old-fashioned way: with grit, skill, and a shot at the NFL.

From Ivy League Standout to NFL Hopeful

Walker began his college career at Brown University, where he played wide receiver from 2020 to 2023. Over his three seasons in the Ivy League, he posted impressive numbers:

  • 127 receptions
  • 1,496 receiving yards
  • 15 touchdowns

His 2021 season was particularly standout — he earned Sophomore All-American honors from HERO Sports and was named Phil Steele’s FCS Ivy League Rookie of the Year. His ability to run clean routes, make tough catches in traffic, and create yards after the catch helped establish him as one of the top pass-catchers in the league.

In 2023, Walker transferred to Rice University and transitioned to the tight end position — a strategic move to increase his value to NFL scouts. Though his stats dipped (24 receptions for 252 yards and no touchdowns), he adapted to the more physical demands of the role and earned All-American Athletic Conference honorable mention honors.

At 6’3” and around 220 pounds, Walker offers a rare blend of size and agility. He describes himself as a tight end with wide receiver skills, a hybrid profile that could benefit a team like the Chiefs, especially in a depth-thin TE room behind Travis Kelce.

A Mahomes-to-Mahomes Connection?

The idea of Patrick Mahomes throwing passes to his own brother is the kind of NFL storyline that writes itself. If Walker can perform well in minicamp, earn a roster spot, and eventually take the field, the Mahomes family could make history.

Of course, the road won’t be easy. The Chiefs are perennial Super Bowl contenders, and every roster spot is earned through intense competition. But with athletic pedigree, football IQ, and a relentless work ethic, Walker has the tools to turn this tryout into something more.
