Orioles Mourn Tragic Death of 19-Year-Old Infielder

Luis Guevara, 19-Year-Old Orioles Prospect, Tragically Passes Away

The Baltimore Orioles organization is in mourning after announcing the death of Luis Guevara, a 19-year-old minor league infielder from Venezuela.

The team broke the heartbreaking news Tuesday night, confirming Guevara’s passing in a statement released in both English and Spanish.

“Luis was a beloved member of our organization, and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” said Orioles executive vice president and GM Mike Elias. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and teammates, and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time.”

Guevara’s Orioles Short but Promising Career

Signed as an international free agent in January 2023, Guevara was from Tinaco, Venezuela. In 2024, he was playing his first season in the United States, appearing in 30 games across three minor league levels:

  • Single-A Delmarva (24 games)
  • FCL Orioles (4 games)
  • Double-A Chesapeake (2 games)

In total, Guevara played 114 games across his professional career and compiled a solid slash line of .281/.420/.343 with a .763 OPS—numbers that showcased his developing talent and plate discipline.

A Devastating Loss for Baseball

Though the team has not disclosed further details regarding his passing, the outpouring of emotion from the Orioles community and beyond makes clear just how much Guevara meant to those who knew him.

This loss is a painful reminder of how precious life is. Guevara was more than a player—he was a teammate, a friend, and a young man with his entire future ahead of him.

The Orioles and baseball fans around the world now grieve that future, taken far too soon.
