NHL Playoff Update: Game Moments, Injuries and Top Plays

The 2025 NHL Playoffs are no place for the timid, and Thursday night delivered a double dose of drama.

One team punched its ticket to the final four with icy swagger. Another clawed its way back from the brink with a furious, must-win shutout. Stars rose, goalies stood tall, and the ice told stories only this postseason could script.

Carolina’s OFF to the NHL Conference Finals

The storm surged through Washington as the Hurricanes advanced to the Eastern Conference Final, defeating the Capitals 3-1 in Game 5. Jordan Staal opened the scoring early, while Andrei Svechnikov’s late goal sealed the victory, marking his eighth of the playoffs. Andersen was stellar in the net, stopping 18 of 19 shots, and maintaining an impressive 1.36 GAA and .937 save percentage. Seth Jarvis capped the game with an empty-netter.

Carolina now awaits the outcome of the Florida-Toronto series, tied 3-2, with Game 6 on Friday. A Panthers win would set up a revenge matchup for Carolina, while a Maple Leafs victory would lead to a nostalgic rematch from 2002. Carolina’s playoff leaders include Andrei Svechnikov with 8 goals and 1 assist, Seth Jarvis with 4 goals and 6 assists, and Sebastain with 3 goals and 7 assists.

The Jets Stay Alive

You can’t kill the Jets. Not yet. Facing elimination and down 3-1 in the series, Winnipeg dominated the Dallas Stars with a 4-0 victory at Canada Life Centre in Game 5. That’s six home playoff wins for the Jets, with none on the road. Right now, all that matters is they’re still alive.

Nikolaj shone in the third period, scoring twice to bring his playoff total to five goals. Mark Scheifele and Vladislav each added a goal and an assist, while Kyle Connor and Neal Pionk contributed two helpers. Winnipeg’s offense clicked, and their defense smothered Dallas throughout the game.

Connor was the biggest anchor, recording his second straight shutout by stopping 22 shots and demoralizing a stunned Stars team. Head coach Scott Arniel praised his players for not flinching under pressure, stating,

“From the first shift, we were dialed in. No hesitation. No retreat.”

Game 6 returns to Dallas, with the Stars leading 3-2, but Winnipeg proved they still had a fight.

No major injuries were reported, and physicality remains high. Goaltending was crucial, as Andersen and Hellebyuk combined to stop 40 of 41 shots. The 2025 NHL Playoffs are intensifying; Carolina moves on, while Winnipeg fights on. With key Game 6s ahead, the path to the Stanley Cup is unpredictable and thrilling.
