Rob Blake Steps Down After Eight Seasons With the LA Kings
The NHL offseason kicked off with a major headline — Rob Blake is out as general manager of the LA Kings after eight seasons at the helm. The decision, announced as a mutual parting, came just days after the Kings were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers. It marked the fourth straight year Los Angeles exited in the first round, all four times at the hands of Connor McDavid’s Edmonton squad.
Blake took over in 2017 and led the Kings to a consistent regular-season presence, with a record of 309-238-71 over his tenure. However, despite solid play, the Kings failed to advance past the first round in five playoff appearances and never recaptured the Stanley Cup magic from their 2012 and 2014 glory days.
Blake’s impact on the franchise is still notable — he elevated the team back into playoff contention and helped nurture young talent — but with no playoff series wins and mounting fan frustration, the time had come for change.
“Rob deserves a great deal of credit and respect for elevating us to where we are today,” said team president Luc Robitaille.
As the LA Kings begin their search for a new GM, questions swirl about the team’s direction and whether it can finally overcome its postseason slump. The front-office shakeup adds another layer to an already chaotic NHL playoff season.
Playoff Game 7s Spark Betting Frenzy
While front offices reshuffle, the NHL playoffs on the ice have delivered some of the most thrilling moments in recent memory — and the sports betting world has taken notice. The first round concluded with multiple Game 7 showdowns, including the Winnipeg Jets’ stunning double-overtime win over the St. Louis Blues. Down 3-1 in the third period, the Jets stormed back with two late goals, forcing OT and eventually sealing the win — a result that flipped betting odds on their head.
At one point in the third period, the Blues were -1000 favorites on the live moneyline, while the Jets were +575 underdogs. Bettors who took the risk on Winnipeg saw a huge return.
The NBA also featured intense Game 7s, including Denver’s dominant win over the Clippers and Golden State’s upset over Houston. Both series attracted major attention in the sports betting market, with spreads and moneyline bets shifting rapidly throughout the weekend.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour wasn’t without drama either. Scottie Scheffler crushed the field at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, tying the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record and cashing in for those who had him as a +300 pre-tournament favorite — the most-bet player of the event.
With high-stakes games, upsets, and management shakeups dominating the headlines, this has been one of the most chaotic and exciting playoff seasons in recent NHL history — on and off the ice.
