NFL Mourns the Loss of Former Cardinals Star at Age 65

Cardinals Legend Luis Sharpe Passes Away Peacefully at 65

The NFL community is mourning the loss of former Arizona Cardinals standout Luis Sharpe, who passed away Saturday at the age of 65. The three-time Pro Bowl left tackle was a cornerstone of the Cardinals’ offensive line for 13 seasons, playing through the franchise’s transition from St. Louis to Arizona.

Sharpe’s widow, Tameka Williams-Sharpe, announced his passing in a heartfelt Facebook post, writing:

“With deep sorrow and abiding love, I share that my beloved husband, Luis Sharpe, has passed away… His strength, love, and faith were a light to all who knew him… I trust that Luis is now resting in God’s eternal peace.”

Fans, Teammates, and Reporters Pay Tribute to NFL Great

Tributes have poured in from fans, former teammates, and journalists across social media. Longtime sportscaster Kevin McCabe wrote:

“My heart aches tonight, learning that former Arizona Cardinal star OL Luis Sharpe has died… He had been clean and sober for years. He died peacefully of heart failure. Godspeed my friend ❤️🙏”

Others remembered Sharpe not only for his elite talent but also his character and post-NFL work in the community.

“Luis Sharpe… was always engaging with the fans as a veteran player and spent his life after football helping his community,” one fan shared.

A Legacy Carved on Stones

Sharpe was selected 16th overall in the 1982 NFL Draft out of UCLA and went on to start all 189 regular-season games of his career. He made three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 1987 to 1989 and earned a reputation as one of the most technically sound left tackles of his era.

“His pass pro fan blocking technique was textbook,” another fan noted. “Huge respect for Luis Sharpe and profound condolences to his family and loved ones.”

The Cardinals organization also honored Sharpe on social media, stating,

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Luis Sharpe. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

May Luis Sharpe rest in peace, and may his legacy inspire future generations both on and off the field.
