NFL Draft Shocks: Shedeur Sanders’ Slide Headlines a Wild Weekend

The 2025 NFL Draft was packed with drama, surprises, and future stars, but none caught more attention than Shedeur Sanders’ unexpected fall. While big names soared to the top, Sanders’ surprising draft day experience was the headline no one saw coming.

Shedeur Sanders’ Stunning Slide

Shedeur Sanders, the highly touted quarterback from Colorado and son of Deion Sanders, endured a draft-day nightmare after falling all the way to the fifth round. Expected by many to go in the first or second round, Sanders was finally picked 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

According to Reuters, teams were wary of pre-draft comments made by Sanders and his father about only playing for certain teams. Concerns over potential “diva” behavior combined with his mixed combine interviews reportedly turned front offices off. His selection even drew a muted reaction in the Browns’ draft room, captured live and quickly going viral.

Still, many analysts believe the Browns could have landed a huge bargain if Sanders channels the right mindset moving forward.

Top Picks Shine: Cam Ward and Travis Hunter Make History

While Sanders slipped, other stars rose. Cam Ward stunned the football world by going No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans, a meteoric rise from underdog status to first pick. His strong final college season and electric pre-draft process pushed him past traditional favorites.

Meanwhile, Travis Hunter — Sanders’ Colorado teammate — was picked No. 2 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hunter’s dual-threat ability at both cornerback and wide receiver made him an irresistible choice.

 Raiders, Chiefs, and Draft Steals

The Las Vegas Raiders aggressively retooled their offense, making 11 picks — including standout running back Ashton Jeanty — and heavily investing under new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. However, analysts noted concerns with their largely untouched run defense (Silver and Black Pride).

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs struck gold in the fourth round, selecting Jalen Royals. The Utah State receiver has already been dubbed the “steal of the draft” thanks to his elite speed and touchdown production (The Sun).

As the dust settles, Day 2 and 3 surprises like Sanders’ slide and under-the-radar gems will likely be what defines the 2025 draft class. For full coverage, visit NFL.com Draft Central.
