NASCAR Truck Driver Dropped Before Playoffs

Kaden Honeycutt Let Go Despite Playoff Standing

In a stunning move just ahead of the NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs, Niece Motorsports has parted ways with Kaden Honeycutt, who was sitting ninth in the playoff points.

The team announced Monday that Honeycutt was released “effective immediately,” citing his 2026 deal with another Truck Series organization as the reason. The decision allows Niece to begin preparing for the future.

Connor Zilisch Steps Into the No. 45

Taking over the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado will be 19-year-old rising star Connor Zilisch, who’s had a breakout year in Xfinity with five wins, including JR Motorsports’ 100th victory at Indianapolis.

Zilisch will pull triple duty at Watkins Glen, competing in the Truck, Xfinity, and Cup Series races. He’ll pilot the No. 87 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet in his Cup appearance.

“Excited to get back in a truck with @NieceMotorsport this weekend at my favorite track! Triple duty 🤯,” Zilisch posted on X.

Bayley Currey to Finish the NASCAR Season

Bayley Currey, who’s had eight races in Niece’s No. 44 this season, will handle most of the driving duties for the No. 45 after Watkins Glen. He tied his career-best with a fourth-place finish in Atlanta earlier this year.

Honeycutt’s season was strong, with nine top-10 finishes, including third at Charlotte and Pocono. Despite the abrupt exit, he plans to continue racing this year.

The Watkins Glen race will also see Christopher Bell subbing in for injured Stewart Friesen, who’s recovering from multiple injuries following a crash in Quebec.

With the playoffs looming, NASCAR’s Truck Series is already heating up, with big names moving and bigger questions ahead.
