LA Sparks Troll Sophie Cunningham After Win With Brutal Jab

The Los Angeles Sparks got the last laugh Saturday night, and they made sure Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever knew it.

After their 89–87 win over the Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Los Angeles Sparks didn’t hold back on social media. In a cheeky post, the team roasted Cunningham for her recent controversial comments questioning the WNBA’s expansion into Detroit and Cleveland.

Sophie Cunningham raised eyebrows earlier this month by saying, “I don’t know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or Cleveland,” while advocating for expansion teams in places like Miami and Nashville instead.

That comment didn’t age well. The Los Angeles Sparks have now beaten the Indiana Fever twice at home in less than two weeks. Which includes a previous 85–75 win on June 26.

However, with Caitlin Clark still sidelined due to a groin injury, Aliyah Boston led the Indiana Fever with 23 points and 12 rebounds. But it wasn’t enough to overcome a red-hot Sparks team led by Azurá Stevens (21 points, 12 rebounds) and Kelsey Plum (20 points).

Sophie Cunningham, meanwhile, finished with four points in 22 minutes.

The Indiana Fever return to action Wednesday against the Golden State Valkyries, while the Sparks host the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday Night. But until then, the Los Angeles Sparks are walking away with not just a win, but the internet, too.
