Juan Soto’s All-Star Take Sparks Backlash from MLB Fans

Juan Soto Slammed for Saying All-Star Spot Is “All About the Money”

Juan Soto has never been one to hold back and now the New York Mets star is catching heat for saying the quiet part out loud.

When asked by an SNY reporter whether he wanted to make the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, the Dominican slugger didn’t talk about legacy or pride. Instead, he said bluntly: “What do you think? I think there’s a lot of money on the table if I make it.”

That quote ignited an instant backlash from fans and baseball purists who believe the All-Star Game should be about honor and pride, not payouts. On social media and sports talk shows, critics labeled the comment “tone-deaf” and accused Soto of chasing checks over legacy.

Money Talks—But Timing Matters

Juan Soto wasn’t wrong. Players do get paid handsomely for making the All-Star roster, and Home Run Derby winners earn $1 million. But many felt Soto’s comment lacked the class expected of a player of his caliber, especially in a season where he narrowly missed selection due to intense competition.

Even former players chimed in, with several saying Soto could’ve focused more on representing his league than boosting his bank account.

Despite the controversy, Juan Soto continues to shine at the plate. He remains one of the top hitters in the National League and is a major piece of the Mets’ playoff push.

But in today’s era where image is everything his frankness may linger longer than expected. In past years, MLB legends used All-Star selections to solidify their reputation and inspire fans. Soto’s take? It’s all business.

Whether you agree with him or not, Juan Soto has once again made headlines and not just for what he does with a bat.
