Jose Ramirez had a Quick Nap After Being Hit By Pitch at the Plate

Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez had fans laughing during Wednesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. Thanks to a hilarious moment that went viral almost instantly.

In his second plate appearance, a pitch from Reds starter Nick Lodolo ran inside and drilled Ramirez on the knee. But instead of reacting with pain or frustration, the 32-year-old third baseman flopped to the ground and… pretended to take a nap.

Jose Ramirez: A Nap, Then a Debate

Ramirez lay motionless for a few seconds in the batter’s box before Reds catcher Jose Trevino helped him to his feet. But the antics didn’t stop there.

Ramirez then turned to home plate umpire Nestor Ceja, jokingly trying to argue that the pitch hit his bat; not his leg, in an effort to get another shot at swinging.

Needless to say, the ump didn’t bite. Ramirez was awarded first base, but not before delivering one of the funniest plate appearances of the season.

Adding to the Laughs — and the Scoreboard

Moments after his comedic display, Carlos Santana crushed a grand slam, scoring Ramirez and helping power the Guardians to an 11–2 blowout win.

Ramirez’s quirky sense of humor and clutch play remind fans why he’s not just one of the most productive players in baseball. But also one of the most entertaining.

It’s not every day you see a player take a nap mid-game and score on the next play. Classic Jose.
