10 Reasons Jerry Jones Should Step Down as Dallas Cowboys General Manager

Jerry Jones is an NFL icon. He bought the Cowboys, turned them into a financial juggernaut, and helped build “America’s Team” into a global brand. But let’s be real—his time as general manager has been, well… let’s call it questionable at best.

While Jerry is a great businessman, his GM decisions have led to decades of frustration for Cowboys fans. It might be time for him to step aside and let someone else take the reins. Here are 10 reasons why Cowboys Nation might be better off with a new GM.

10. He Hasn’t Won a Super Bowl Since the ’90s

Yes, the Cowboys have five Super Bowls, but the last one was in the mid ‘90s. Since then, they’ve been stuck in football purgatory, with a mix of mediocrity, playoff heartbreaks, and so much wasted talent. Maybe—just maybe—the GM is part of the problem?

9. Too Many Bad Contracts

Jerry loves making splashy deals, but not all of them work out. Whether it’s overpaying for underperforming players or structuring contracts that haunt the team’s salary cap for years, his financial moves don’t always scream “genius.”

8. His Draft Picks Are a Mixed Bag

The Cowboys have made some great picks (Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb), but they’ve also had some legendary busts. Remember Taco Charlton over T.J. Watt? Or drafting two first-round running backs in a pass-happy NFL? Yeah, not ideal.

7. He Won’t Hire a Real GM

Every other NFL team has a general manager who focuses solely on football decisions. Jerry? Nope. He insists on keeping all the power for himself. Maybe, just maybe, a professional GM could do a better job of actually winning?

6. Coaching Hires Have Been… Interesting

From clinging to Jason Garrett for way too long to hiring Mike McCarthy, Jerry’s coaching decisions have been questionable at best. And let’s not even talk about the Wade Phillips era.

5. Too Much Meddling in Game Plans

Most GMs build the roster and let the coaches, you know, coach. Jerry, on the other hand, loves inserting himself into team decisions, which can create unnecessary drama and confusion. Let the football people do the football things, Jerry!

4. The Cowboys Keep Choking in the Playoffs

It’s been 30 years since the Cowboys even made an NFC Championship Game. Every year, they look great in the regular season, only to collapse when it matters most. That’s a pattern, not bad luck.

3. He’s Prioritizing the Brand Over Football

The Cowboys print money. They’re the most valuable sports franchise on Earth. But Jerry often seems more focused on growing the brand than actually winning football games. Maybe it’s time to let a GM who cares about winning take over?

Jerry has nothing left to prove. He’s already cemented his legacy as an owner and businessman. Why not retire, relax, and watch the Cowboys from a suite without the stress of micromanaging every decision? Go enjoy life, Jerry—you’ve earned it!
