Is it time for Aaron Rodgers to hang it up and head to the broadcast booth?
According to Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware, the answer might be yes.
On a recent appearance on the Up & Adams podcast, Ware didn’t hold back. While giving Rodgers his flowers, calling him a future Hall of Famer and a legend in his own right, Ware also suggested it might be time to walk away.
“I mean, right now, where Aaron Rodgers should go, I think he should hang the cleats up,” Ware said. “That’s where I think Aaron Rodgers should go. He should put a suit on just like me and talk about football. He’s the best of the best, right?”
Ware also acknowledged the greatness of Rodgers’ career, calling him a future Hall of Famer. “He’ll probably be the second guy from our class to make it in after me,” Ware added, referencing the 2005 draft class they both came from.
But the real reason Ware thinks Aaron Rodgers should consider retirement? It’s not about talent. It’s about timing. Ware warned of the physical toll the game takes, especially with age and injuries piling up. And while Rodgers still has the IQ and the arm, the risk of serious injury looms larger every season.
Speaking from experience, Ware said he didn’t retire because he couldn’t compete. He left on his own terms.
“It’s about going out through the front door,” Ware explained, “not being dragged out the back.”
Aaron Rodgers, who took over as the Packers’ starter in 2008 and now enters his 20th NFL season, has already secured his legacy, with four MVPs, a Super Bowl title, and a reputation as one of the smartest QBs the league has seen. But with age creeping in, Ware believes it might be time for him to trade the helmet for a headset.
Free Agent Aaron Rodgers looking for the next stop in his career
After parting ways with the New York Jets in March 2025, the four-time MVP instantly became one of the hottest names in free agency. And right now, all eyes are on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Why? Aaron Rodgers was recently spotted training with DK Metcalf, the Steelers’ newest weapon. That alone has fans buzzing about a possible Rodgers-Steelers connection.
But there’s a twist. According to NFL insider Mike Florio, Rodgers might be playing the waiting game. He’s reportedly holding out until the May 14 NFL schedule release, possibly to see which team gives him the best shot at one last Super Bowl run.
At 41, Rodgers is clearly thinking legacy over longevity. And if the right situation presents itself, don’t be surprised if he suits up in black and gold next.
