Fans React to ‘Weakest in History’ Potential Ryder Cup Team

U.S. Fans Sound the Alarm After Rankings Drop

Tension is mounting as golf fans react to the newly released U.S. Ryder Cup team rankings. Online commentary quickly turned critical, with posts calling this the “weakest US squad in history.”

With the 2025 Ryder Cup approaching fast, scheduled for Sept. 26–28 at Bethpage Black in New York, fans are skeptical about how the U.S. stacks up against Europe.

The current U.S. team standings show Scottie Scheffler leading with 32,420 points, far ahead of Xander Schauffele (13,383) and J.J. Spaun (12,479). The rest of the top six include Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau, and Harris English, solid names, but not enough to silence the doubters.

Comparing the U.S. and Europe: Trouble Ahead?

Europe’s side already looks deeper and more balanced. Rory McIlroy leads with roughly 3,440 points, followed by Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, and Sepp Straka. These names bring both form and Ryder Cup history. Additional European strength comes from players like Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, and Justin Rose, creating a formidable bench.

In contrast, the U.S. team’s depth beyond its top six appears murky. Captain Keegan Bradley has six discretionary picks, but it remains unclear if those choices can stack up to Europe’s momentum. Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Maverick McNealy, and Brian Harman round out spots seven to twelve.

Social Media Reacts: “Bloodbath Incoming”

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) didn’t hold back.

  • @ProvisionalBet warned of a “bloodbath incoming”
  • @jjpark1217 posted “god help us…”
  • @CatInSuitandTie added “Oh Lawd Help Us”
  • @JoeFalaHee21 commented, “Not looking great !”
  • @mellowmallow24 wrote, “If this is the team at Bethpage, we’re cooked.”

While Team USA has a few elite players, critics argue most of the squad lacks Ryder Cup match-play credentials. Even with automatic qualifiers, many question if this group has the depth to compete with Europe’s experienced core.

Can Captain Keegan Bradley Rally the Troops

With Keegan Bradley possibly serving as both captain and player, his decisions will shape the U.S. team’s fate. While Scheffler and Schauffele can anchor the squad, the lack of synergy and experience across the board raises flags.

Fans are already bracing for a European blowout. However, performances leading up to the final selections in August could shift the tone, if American players prove they belong under pressure.

For now, the sentiment online is loud and clear: the U.S. has work to do to avoid disaster at Bethpage.
