ESPN Faces Fan Backlash After Hulk Hogan Death Article

ESPN Under Fire After Hulk Hogan Article Sparks Fan Boycott

ESPN is facing growing backlash from wrestling fans following a controversial article posted after Hulk Hogan’s death. The WWE legend passed away Thursday at the age of 71, but instead of honoring his wrestling legacy, a piece published on ESPN’s Andscape took aim at his past controversies, most notably, his racist remarks.

The article, written by David Dennis Jr., didn’t mince words. Titled “Professional wrestling star’s career is no match for his racism,” the story focused on Hogan’s admitted use of the N-word and other racially charged statements, calling racism “his legacy above all else.”

“When you are a racist that is your legacy above all else,” Dennis wrote. “It’s not complicated.”

Wrestling Fans Disagrees

Unsurprisingly, the piece ignited a firestorm on social media. Fans quickly took to X to express outrage and announce a “boycott” of ESPN.

Many fans felt the article was insensitive and poorly timed. One commenter questioned whether similar treatment would’ve been given to other public figures, asking:

“When Kobe Bryant died, did you post an article saying he should only be remembered as an adulterer or for the homophobic slurs he used?”

Others defended Hogan’s cultural impact despite his flaws.

“EVERYONE’S legacy is complicated, including yours,” one fan replied. “What if we were all judged by the single worst thing we had ever done?”

Critics also accused ESPN of using Hogan’s death as a moment to push a narrative rather than honor a legendary figure.

“Posting this while HH’s body was still warm tells us everything we need to know about you,” a user posted.

While Hulk Hogan’s career had undeniable low points, his impact on pro wrestling and pop culture was massive. For many fans, that legacy deserves more balance — especially in the wake of his passing.

As the debate continues, ESPN’s decision to spotlight his most controversial moments has clearly divided the public. Whether the “boycott” gains momentum remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the conversation around Hogan’s legacy is far from over.
