Erling Haaland Signs Record-Breaking Contract With Manchester City

Erling Haaland has committed his long-term future to Manchester City, signing a groundbreaking 9½-year contract with the Premier League champions.

The club announced the deal on Friday, January 17, marking the longest contract in the league’s history. The Norwegian striker, who initially signed with City in 2022, is now tied to the club until 2034.

A Historic Deal

Haaland’s previous contract was set to expire in 2027, but this new agreement extends his stay well into his 30s. While the financial terms were not disclosed, sources suggest to ESPN the deal ranks among the most lucrative in sports history

Additionally, the new contract removes the buyout clauses included in his original deal, making it harder for other clubs to lure him away.

At just 24 years old, Haaland has already proven himself to be one of the top players in the world and this record-breaking contract cements his importance to Manchester City’s future.

Fending Off Competition

Haaland had been linked with moves to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent years. However, his extended contract shows his commitment to Manchester City and the Premier League.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” Haaland said.

The striker’s new deal is another win for City, following Pep Guardiola’s contract extension in November, which keeps the manager at the club until 2027.

A Phenomenal Track Record

Since joining City 2½ years ago, Haaland has been nothing short of sensational. He has scored an incredible 111 goals in 126 appearances and helped the team secure two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.

In the Premier League alone, he has netted 79 goals in just 87 matches, placing him 61st on the all-time scoring list. At his current pace, he could break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals by the 2029-30 season.

A Bright Future

Needless to say, Haaland is looking forward to continuing his journey with City. “This is a special club, full of fantastic people and amazing supporters,” he said. “They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what.”

With Haaland’s commitment, Manchester City fans can dream of even more success in the years to come. The future looks bright for both the club and its record-breaking striker.
