DeWanna Bonner Set to Leave Fever After Just Nine Games

Fever, DeWanna Bonner Reportedly Set for Early Split

The Indiana Fever are expected to part ways with six-time WNBA All-Star DeWanna Bonner after a brief and underwhelming stint, per a report from Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile.

Bonner, who signed a one-year deal with Indiana during the offseason, has played in just nine games for the team. Initially a starter, she was shifted to a bench role after three games and hasn’t appeared on the court since June due to what the team cited as “personal reasons.”

Veteran Star Wants Out

Costabile reports that Bonner has “no interest” in returning to the Fever. However, she is eyeing a potential landing spot with either the Phoenix Mercury or the Atlanta Dream.

If no trade materializes, a waiver move could also be in the cards.

Bonner’s numbers in Indiana have been uncharacteristically low. She averaged just 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game. This is a steep drop-off from her 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last season with the Connecticut Sun.

This season marks the first time in her 16-year career that she’s averaged fewer than 10 points per game.

The Fever hoped Bonner would add veteran leadership and scoring alongside Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and NaLyssa Smith. But the chemistry never clicked.

With Bonner seemingly on her way out, Indiana may now look to prioritize younger pieces as they continue to rebuild through the 2025 season.
