Dave Portnoy may be a major Indiana Fever supporter, but that loyalty doesn’t extend to Sophie Cunningham anymore. The Barstool Sports founder revealed on a recent episode of The Unnamed Show why he chose not to go into business with the Fever guard, despite initial interest.
Cunningham recently launched her own podcast, Tell Me Something, co-hosted by reality TV star West Wilson. Two episodes in, and it’s already stirring controversy, including a fine from the WNBA.
While Portnoy initially considered backing the podcast under the Barstool banner, he ultimately passed.
“It wasn’t so much her; anytime I have to deal with agents, it’s hard,” Portnoy said. “Her focus wasn’t going to be the podcast. It was just one amongst 9,000 things she was doing. And so it felt like we were getting screwed.”

“I’m Kind of Rooting Against Her Now,” Portnoy Admits
Portnoy clarified that he still likes Cunningham as a player and a person, but her busy schedule and the involvement of her agents turned him off the deal. “I really thought we would be carrying so much of the weight, marketing, all this [expletive],” he said.
Even if there’s no open beef, Portnoy’s final comment raised eyebrows:
“So now, I like her, but I’m kind of rooting against her.”
The comment adds fuel to an already spicy situation. Cunningham’s first podcast episode included a hot take supporting Caitlin Clark as the face of the WNBA, and that led to a $1,500 fine from the league.
Whether the podcast succeeds or fizzles, one thing is clear: Sophie Cunningham won’t be getting a Barstool boost anytime soon.
