Cam Newton Claps Back at Ryan Clark Over Jayden Daniels Critique

Cam Newton Fires Back After Ryan Clark

Cam Newton is never one to stay silent, and he’s proving it again, this time in a war of words with ESPN’s Ryan Clark. The former NFL MVP and current analyst lit a spark when he compared Jayden Daniels to Robert Griffin III, suggesting the Commanders quarterback might be a one-hit wonder.

Clark didn’t appreciate the take and was quick to push back, citing Daniels’ strong work ethic and character as proof he’s built for long-term success. But Newton isn’t backing down. On his latest 4th & 1 Podcast, Cam Newton doubled down with a sharp retort:

“Nobody is above critique if you play the game of football… Just because he’s a model citizen, we can’t critique his game? That’s mighty strange.”

He added that being nice off the field doesn’t shield players from the reality of NFL pressure. “Safe don’t get you nowhere,” Newton said. “It gets you cut.”

And Cam Newton has a point. History is full of promising QBs who started hot and fizzled out. Even RGIII’s downfall wasn’t about talent, it was about injury mismanagement, particularly the disastrous decision by Mike Shanahan to leave him in during a playoff game against the Seahawks.

Jayden Daniels, by contrast, stayed healthy and posted one of the best rookie QB seasons in recent memory. He even looked sharper than Cam himself or RGIII in their debuts. The Commanders have also built up a stronger roster around him, making regression less likely.

Still, Cam Newton’s take wasn’t a personal attack, but a football opinion. And in his view, that shouldn’t be off-limits.

Let us know, was Cam Newton out of line, or just keeping it real?
