Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History in Chaos-Filled Win Over Connecticut Sun

Caitlin Clark continues to shatter WNBA records, even when all eyes are on the chaos around her.

In an intense, physical 88–71 win over the Connecticut Sun, the Indiana Fever clinched a spot in the Commissioner’s Cup championship. While the brawl-like energy on the court dominated headlines, Clark quietly etched her name into history again.

The Fever phenom posted 12 points, 5 assists, 3 three-pointers, 2 steals, and a rebound in just the first half. But it was her fourth assist that set her apart. According to Polymarket Hoops, Clark became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 100 points and 50 assists in a season, doing it in just six games. The previous record? Held by Clark herself, in eight games last season.

Clark’s Historic Night Overshadowed by Chaos

As much as Clark’s stat line deserves praise, the night was anything but smooth.

In the third quarter, Clark took a poke to the eye from Jacy Sheldon, then got shoved to the floor by Marina Mabrey. The altercation earned techs for Clark, Mabrey, and Tina Charles. Later, Sophie Cunningham delivered a hard foul to Sheldon, sparking more chaos and multiple ejections.

Even coaches criticized the officiating, saying the game had been spiraling from the opening tip.

Commissioner’s Cup Final Set: Fever vs. Lynx

Despite the drama, Indiana walked away with the win and a date with the Minnesota Lynx in the Commissioner’s Cup Final on July 1.

The Lynx knocked off the defending Cup champs, Las Vegas Aces, behind 20 points from Courtney Williams, but also saw star Napheesa Collier exit with a back issue. Her status looms large ahead of the final.

Indiana enters with momentum, having also handed the New York Liberty their first loss earlier in the week. Can Clark and the surging Fever steal the crown from the battle-tested Lynx?

One thing’s clear: history tends to follow Caitlin Clark wherever she goes.
