Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History Despite Loss to Valkyries

Caitlin Clark returned to the hardwood Wednesday night for her 50th WNBA career game, and though the Indiana Fever suffered an 80-61 loss to the Golden State Valkyries, Clark etched her name into league history again.

After missing five games due to a groin injury, Clark had a modest performance by her standards: 10 points, five rebounds, and six assists, shooting 4-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-5 from three-point range.

But the real story was the record book.

Clark Sets New WNBA Records in 50-Game Milestone

Despite the off night, Clark now holds multiple WNBA records through a player’s first 50 career games:

  • Most assists: 423
    • Surpassing Hall of Famer Ticha Penicheiro, who reached that mark in 59 games.
  • Most three-pointers made: 147
    • Topping Rhyne Howard, who hit the same number in 56 games.
  • 7th-most points in WNBA history through 50 games: 943
    • The fastest? Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, who reached 943 points in just 42 games.

Clark is currently averaging 18.9 points, 8.5 assists, and 2.9 three-pointers per game, and her impact on the Fever is undeniable—even if the wins haven’t come consistently yet.

What’s Next for the Fever?

With the loss, Indiana drops to 9-10 on the season and holds a 5-5 record when Clark is on the court. They’ll continue their five-game homestand on Friday when they take on Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream.

For now, Clark can take solace in knowing that even on a tough night, she’s still rewriting WNBA history.
