Caitlin Clark Joins WNBA CBA Talks Amid Angel Reese’s Pay Criticism

Caitlin Clark Steps Up as Talks Heat Up

Caitlin Clark is preparing to make her voice heard during a critical moment for the WNBA. As the league and the players’ union continue contentious Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations. Clark is stepping into the spotlight, just days after Angel Reese reignited debate over player salaries.

The Indiana Fever star confirmed she will be attending the upcoming CBA discussions in Indianapolis. While she isn’t her team’s official rep, Clark said she’s eager to get involved. “I’m trying to understand and engage as much as possible,” she said. “This is a very important time for our league.”

Angel Reese Sparks New Debate

Angel Reese, who’s long been vocal about wage inequality, drew attention after earning $50,000 in an offseason tournament hosted by the Unrivaled women’s league. That amount combined with their base WNBA pay, has reignited complaints that players like Reese and Clark are grossly underpaid despite their star power.

Unrivaled reportedly offers average salaries near $220,000, well above what most WNBA rookies and sophomores earn.

Tension Grows Around CBA Stalemate

The WNBPA opted out of the current CBA last October, setting the stage for change before the agreement expires in 2025. But negotiations have stalled.

Breanna Stewart recently voiced frustration: “They kind of just ignored everything we said.” WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike remained hopeful, emphasizing how much faster progress can be made during in-person talks.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert echoed that optimism. “We’ll get something done, and it’ll be transformational,” she promised. Still, she stressed the league must stick to a sustainable financial model.

Caitlin Clark’s presence could shift the tone. She’s among the league’s biggest draws, and her involvement might force more urgency. As Clark put it, “This is important for where the league is going to grow.”

Whether her voice can bridge the divide remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the WNBA’s next chapter is being written now.
