Shedeur Sanders Struggles for Early Momentum in Cleveland
The Cleveland Browns are hoping their 2025 rookie class can be the start of a turnaround after a disastrous 3-14 season, but not everyone is off to a great start.
One name drawing scrutiny is Shedeur Sanders, the former Colorado quarterback and fifth-round pick, who was labeled one of the “biggest losers” from offseason activities by Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport.
“It was [Dillon] Gabriel who worked mostly with the starters,” Davenport noted, while Sanders is now “facing a summer full of scrutiny” and a real battle just to make the 53-man roster.
Is the Judgment Premature?
Calling Shedeur Sanders a “loser” after OTAs and minicamp might be more about media perception than reality. Despite his high-profile college career and famous last name, Sanders entered the league as a Day 3 selection. And fifth-round quarterbacks rarely start Week 1, let alone shine in early offseason reps.
Given the beating he took behind Colorado’s porous O-line, time to develop might be exactly what Sanders needs. The Browns aren’t in position to rush a rookie QB into action, and there’s no reason for fans to expect instant results.
Browns Patience Could Pay Off
For Browns, the bigger picture is still finding a true franchise quarterback. With two rookies in Shedeur Sanders and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, the Browns are taking a swing. But there’s no shame in Sanders riding the bench while he adjusts to the NFL.
Let’s not forget: OTA depth charts are far from final. And in the NFL, plenty can change between June and Week 1.
