The Browns have fired a serious warning shot at rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders following back-to-back speeding violations. The two incidents, both within two weeks, raised red flags in Cleveland and prompted a public statement from general manager Andrew Berry.
“Not smart, just not smart,” Berry said during Thursday’s training camp. “It’s not just about yourself. It’s about the danger to others. We addressed it with him.”
Berry’s concern extended beyond just image, it was about safety. He cited past incidents in the NFL where fast driving nearly led to tragedy. Sanders, though young, has been made to understand that such behavior could cost more than just his reputation. It could end careers or worse.

Sanders Admits Mistake, Looks to Move Forward
While Shedeur Sanders has yet to address the media formally at camp, he did acknowledge his mistakes in a viral video online.
“I’ve made some not great choices,” Sanders said. “I can own up to them. I learn from it.”
That level of ownership might go a long way with the Browns front office. Though he’s currently sitting fourth on the QB depth chart, Sanders is still in the mix during camp alongside Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Joe Flacco.
Browns Expect More from All Their Rookies
While Sanders’ situation has drawn attention, it’s not the only off-field issue the Browns are dealing with. Running back Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned due to domestic violence allegations, making Sanders’ infractions look minor by comparison.
Still, with the Cleveland Browns eyeing a competitive 2025 season, discipline matters. Head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear that decisions will be made based on performance, maturity, and team needs.
“We want to make the best decision for the football team,” Stefanski said. “And we’re watching every rep.”
If Sanders wants a real shot under center, he’ll need to prove he’s growing up fast, off the field as much as on it. His first test could come August 8 in Cleveland’s preseason opener against the Panthers.
