Chris Sale Trade Rumors Heating Up in Atlanta
The Atlanta Braves have fallen hard from their recent peak, now sitting well below .500 and facing tough questions as the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline approaches. Among those questions: Should the team move on from Chris Sale, their reigning National League Cy Young Award winner?
According to multiple MLB insiders, the idea isn’t far-fetched, especially in the wake of the Rafael Devers trade, which signaled that big-name moves are very much on the table this season.
Why Moving Chris Sale Makes Sense Now
Sale is having another strong season, with a recent run of five straight outings allowing one or fewer earned runs. But with free agency looming this winter, and the Braves struggling to stay afloat in the NL standings, analysts like Christopher Kline believe now may be the time to cash in on the veteran left-hander.
“If the Braves smell the roses and decide the end is nigh, trading Sale while his value is at its peak… isn’t the worst idea,” Kline wrote.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post added fuel to the fire, stating:
“I wouldn’t say zero for Chris Sale… They’re signaling they’re a buyer as of now, but they’re seven or eight games under. There are some names out there… that could potentially get traded.”
If made available, Chris Sale would become the top starting pitcher on the trade block. Despite being 36 and having an injury history, his dominance this season has positioned him as a potential game-changer for contenders aiming for a World Series run.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, teams in need of an ace—like the Dodgers, Orioles, or Phillies, would likely line up to make an offer.
What’s Next for Atlanta?
The Braves must decide if they want to retool for 2026 or gamble on a turnaround this season. If the Devers trade is any indication, Atlanta may already be tilting toward a mini-rebuild.
And if that’s the case, dealing Chris Sale while his stock is sky-high could bring in valuable long-term assets, possibly the first step in charting a new course for a team that once looked like a dynasty in the making.
