Boxing World Mourns Mike Tyson’s Iconic Trainer

Boxing World Mourns Tommy Brooks

The boxing world is in mourning following the death of Tommy Brooks, a legendary trainer who helped shape the careers of some of the sport’s biggest stars. Brooks passed away at the age of 71 after a courageous battle with cancer.

News of Brooks’ passing was shared by boxing promoter Lou DiBella, who paid tribute to the man he called “a great boxing man and an even better person.” DiBella reflected on their years together during the golden era of boxing and offered heartfelt prayers to Brooks’ widow, Donna Duva, and their family.

The WBC also released a statement praising Brooks’ legacy. “Tommy Brooks, former trainer of some of boxing’s biggest names in history, has passed away… He was undoubtedly one of the greatest boxing trainers of all time.”

Brooks’ impressive resume included training Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Mike McCallum, Vinny Pazienza, Freddie Pendleton, Junior Jones, and the Klitschko brothers. Before becoming a coach, Brooks had an outstanding amateur career, including two victories over Michael Spinks.

“Saddened to hear of Tommy Brooks’ passing. He was a top amateur fighter, trainer, and gentleman who brought class to the sport,” one fan wrote.
“Boxing News extends our heartfelt condolences to the Brooks family,” another added.

Mike Tyson, who worked with Brooks during his career, has yet to comment publicly, but the loss clearly weighs heavily on those connected to both men.
