BBC Slammed For Awful Mistake During Wimbledon Broadcast

Trinity Rodman Calls Out BBC Commentary During Wimbledon Match

BBC commentator Andrew Castle has come under fire following his coverage of Ben Shelton’s fourth-round Wimbledon victory, after repeatedly misnaming Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, and referencing her estranged father, NBA legend Dennis Rodman.

Castle, a former British tennis pro, referred to Trinity multiple times as “Tiffany” during Monday’s match — despite her being a well-known U.S. soccer star with 47 international caps and a gold medal from the Paris Olympics.

Rodman, who was at Court One supporting Shelton, took to Instagram shortly after the match to set the record straight.

“My name is Trinity, not Tiffany,” she wrote. “My dad’s not even in my life, no need to bring him up during his [Ben’s] matches when I don’t even want him talked about during mine.”

“He’s Not a Dad. Maybe by Blood, But Nothing Else”

Castle’s commentary not only botched Trinity’s name but also repeatedly brought up Dennis Rodman, calling him a “big character” and drawing comparisons between his flamboyant style and Shelton’s on-court energy. But that commentary didn’t sit well with Trinity, who has previously opened up about her strained relationship with Dennis.

In an emotional 2023 podcast appearance, she shared, “He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else.”

The repeated references during Shelton’s biggest career moment, a comeback win to reach the quarterfinals, sparked widespread backlash online.

Shelton Stays Focused, Eyes Djokovic Clash

Despite the off-court drama, Shelton, 22, remains locked in at Wimbledon. He’ll face world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. If victorious, a blockbuster semi-final against Novak Djokovic looms.

“I’ve got my team here, my parents, my girlfriend, my sister,” Shelton said post-match. “They’ve been my lucky charm.”

As for Trinity? She continues to dominate in her own right with the Washington Spirit, showing the same fiery passion she brought to correcting the broadcast slip-up.
