Are the Packers Eyeing a New QB for 2025? Here’s What We Know

The Green Bay Packers have been spoiled with quarterback talent for over 30 years. Brett Favre, then Aaron Rodgers, and now Jordan Love. Each has stepped up and delivered in a way that most franchises can only dream of. Love, the latest in this line of QB royalty, just signed a massive four-year, $220 million extension after proving he could carry the torch.

But here’s the twist: even with Love locked in, the Packers aren’t done at quarterback.

Brian Gutekunst Wants Green Bay to Be a QB Factory Again

General manager Brian Gutekunst has made it clear. He wants to bring back the old-school Packers vibe of developing quarterbacks and flipping them into long-term value. Think back to when Favre was the guy. Green Bay produced backups like Matt Hasselbeck, Mark Brunell, and Aaron Brooks. All of whom went on to be starters elsewhere.

To revive that pipeline, the Packers took Sean Clifford in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and Michael Pratt in the seventh round in 2024. But neither of those panned out. After disappointing performances in camp and preseason, both were cut. And Malik Willis was brought in via a trade with the Titans to back up Love.

Willis impressed in limited action, especially when Love briefly went down with a sprained MCL in Week One. But even with him in place, the Packers are now looking to add a fourth quarterback to handle offseason reps.

Canadian QB Star Taylor Elgersma on Packers’ Radar

Enter Taylor Elgersma, a name you might not know—yet. The Canadian college standout won his league’s version of the Heisman Trophy and recently had a tryout with the Packers during rookie mini camp. That audition clearly went well, because the team brought him back for a follow-up.

Elgersma is also scheduled to attend Buffalo Bills’ rookie mini camp this weekend, but Green Bay is hoping to lock him in first.

It’s not about finding Love’s replacement, it’s about building depth, creating trade value, and keeping the tradition of quarterback excellence alive in Titletown. As a Packer Fan, NFL enthusiast, do you think the Packers should add one more quarterback for the Season?
