Sophie Cunningham Blasts WNBA Refs in Fiery Podcast Rant

Sophie Cunningham is clearly fed up.

The Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham didn’t hold back in the latest episode of her Show Me Something podcast, where she launched a scathing critique of WNBA referees, comments that could land her in hot water once again.

Cunningham, 28, has already been fined twice this season. The first came after an emotional ejection against the Connecticut Sun on June 17, which cost her $900. The second was a $500 fine for a TikTok post poking fun at the refs.

Now, after another fiery episode, a third punishment may be looming.

“If I were a ref, I know I’d mess up all the time,” Cunningham said. “But when it’s a simple call right in front of your face, multiple times… What are you doing?”

She then called out the perceived inconsistency of league officials.

“They’re just so inconsistent. If you’re gonna fine the hell out of me, then fine, let me do the same to you. You know what I mean?”

League-Wide Frustration?

Cunningham claimed these frustrations weren’t hers alone.

“Players across the league and even new fans are asking, ‘What is going on with the refs?’ And honestly, I don’t know,” she said. “And fining me $500 won’t do [expletive].”

Her podcast co-host, West Wilson, even suggested putting that bold quote on a T-shirt. Cunningham laughed off the idea but didn’t rule it out.

“And then I’ll get fined for that. And this. And the fines continue,” she joked.

With Cunningham’s comments already trending, it wouldn’t be surprising if the WNBA reacts swiftly. If a TikTok earned her a fine, a full-blown podcast rant might come with a heavier price tag.
