All the Gymnastic Moves Now Named After Simone Biles

Simone Biles earned the “Greatest of All Time” title because she is incredible at gymnastics and can do moves that are extremely complex and entertaining to watch. Check out the gymnastic moves named after the GOAT herself (but don’t try these moves at home unless you are a gymnast)!

The Biles Floor Move

This move was the first of many to be named after Simone Biles, which is hard to believe that there was a time when there weren’t moves named after her. If you can do a double layout with a half-twist during the second flip, then you just did The Biles, which not many people can do.

Biles was only 16 years old when she first did this move, which is impressive considering how young she was! She first completed it at the 2013 World Championships, which probably was met with a standing ovation for the amazing move due to her greatness and her young age.

The Biles Vault Move

The Biles for the vault seems to be an extremely complex move but Biles makes it look easy! To do this move, you have to do a half-twist onto the vaulting table and then a front double full somersault off the table – which is something the average person probably cannot do (and if you say you can you are most likely lying).

The Biles II is a bit different from the first floor move named after the gymnastics star because it is a triple-double, which includes two flips and three twists. There is no doubt that there is extreme satisfaction from the crowd when a gymnast nails this move, but not many can nail it as well as Simone Biles!

The Biles beam move is a dismount from the balance beam that also consists of two twists and two flips. The average person cannot even imagine trying to land after one flip and twist on the balance beam, let alone two of each – but Simone Biles did it with ease and finesse!

The Biles beam move got its name after the 2019 World Championship – meaning Biles balanced her way into a namesake move that day! Not an easy feat, but nothing Simone Biles does is ever easy (even if she makes it look easy with her flawless performance).

This move is the newest edition to the Simone Biles namesake moves, being crowned The Biles II after the 2023 World Championship. To complete the Biles II vault move, you have to do a Yurchenko-style vault which includes two flips in a pike position. To explain what Yurchenko-style means, you have to know the history of gymnast Natalia Vladmirovna Yurchenko, who performed this type of move first in the 1980s – and also won gold for the women’s all around in the 1983 World Championships.
