FOX Sports’ outspoken host Colin Cowherd is facing intense criticism after making a clearly false claim about Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. On Monday’s episode of The Herd, Cowherd questioned McDaniel’s credentials, and wrongly stated that he wasn’t one of the 14 different head coaches who have made the playoffs since 2022.
“There have been 14 different head coaches that have made the playoffs since he arrived in Miami. He’s not one of them,” Cowherd said confidently. The only problem? McDaniel led the Dolphins to the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023.
His comment was so incorrect that the original post on X (formerly Twitter) was promptly community noted to correct the misinformation. The platform clarified: “The Miami Dolphins have made the playoffs twice under Head Coach Mike McDaniel.”

Dolphins Fans and Analysts Aren’t Letting It Slide
Cowherd’s gaffe has triggered a wave of online reactions. Many fans pointed out that even casual football viewers would know McDaniel’s playoff appearances.

Some tried to defend Cowherd by suggesting he may have meant playoff wins. But that explanation didn’t hold up under scrutiny. “The fact quoted here is, in fact, not a fact,” one fan mocked. “Colin, the Dolphins have made the playoffs 2/3 of McDaniel’s seasons as HC,” another added, highlighting the injury challenges the team faced both years.
As of now, Cowherd hasn’t walked back the statement. While some expect an apology, others believe he’ll double down on his argument that McDaniel isn’t the right coach for Miami, facts aside.
If nothing else, this moment proves that even big-time broadcasters aren’t immune to getting called out by the internet especially when football fans are paying attention.
