The Celebrities Who’ve Been Canceled in 2024 (So Far)

“Cancel culture,” as it’s known, is a bit controversial. The gist of this modern form of social exile is that people will block a celebrity or avoid materials they work on due to a disagreement with their politics or conduct. So, who’s been canceled so far in 2024?

Drake

Drake’s well-publicized beef with Kendrick Lamar came to a head with a series of diss tracks earlier this year. The feud resulted in many people perceiving Drake as a predator, with many of Lamar’s songs alleging that the Canadian rapper is a danger to children.

Kim Kardashian has been canceled a number of times over various controversies, but her latest cancellation comes from the “Block Out 2024” movement. This movement is a Tik Tok based social awareness program that calls on social media users to block celebrities who are perceived as not using their platforms to share enough pro-Palestine material.

Susan Sarandon

Bizarrely, actor Susan Sarandon is also facing calls for her cancellation from a different cohort. After she spoke out at a pro-Palestine event, supporters of Israel labeled her anti-Semitic and called for her to be blacklisted on social media and elsewhere.

Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld has recently faced criticism over taking a hardline stance siding with Israel in the recent conflict with Hamas. He then appeared in an interview with incendiary talking head Bari Weiss and insisted that the only rule in comedy is “Is it funny?” and noted, “Nobody cares really about anything else.”

Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney, a rising star of Euphoria fame, caught some heat recently for attending a Trump-themed party for her mother. She lampooned this event herself during an SNL monologue and even addressed a persistent rumor that she’s having an affair with Glen Powell… by cheekily cutting to her “fiancé,” Glen Powell. Well, if you can’t laugh at yourself, what can you laugh at?

Kendall Jenner

Model and reality TV personality Kendall Jenner found herself in hot water recently after a promotional video from Gucci was posted to Instagram. In the video, Jenner is seen boarding a commercial airliner with her Gucci luggage. However, many commentators clowned on the ad spot, claiming there’s no way Jenner ever flies in anything but a private jet.

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is no stranger to controversy, having weathered a lawsuit against her song “Levitating” and backlash over statements she’s made regarding Kosovo and Serbia. These days, she’s facing criticism from social media users over a recently-resurfaced song cover video from 2014 in which she sings the “N” word.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto’s been facing allegations of misconduct for decades, and new details keep being discussed by alleged victims and shrugged off by the actor and vocalist’s fans. He’s also been criticized for his on-set behavior in the name of “method acting,” which crew members allege includes sending his castmates gross gifts while filming Suicide Squad and insisting on walking with crutches in-between takes while filming Morbius.
