If you want your kids to read the classics, you can’t go wrong with Alice in Wonderland. Children will enjoy getting lost in Carroll’s fantastical world. Since it was written over 100 years ago the language is a tad confusing, so I recommend that grownups read the story with their kids to help them understand. You can even do silly voices for each of the characters.

I’m not gonna lie, this series doesn’t end well. But your pre teens will still have fun along the journey even if they are disappointed with the destination. Kids will love the magical journey that this book takes them on. This young adult series is for the teenagers who want to read YA romance more than they want to read fantasy. Vampire Kisses is a young adult vampire series that actually predates Twilight. Unlike Twilight, this book series doesn’t take itself too seriously. It tells the story of a goth girl named Raven who has always wanted to be a vampire. And when a handsome vampire moves to town, she sees this as her chance to make her dreams come true. This series is fun, innocently romantic, and more humorous and campy than it is edgy.
5. The Grace of Wild Things
Written by Heather Fawcett
This book is basically Anne of Green Gables for today’s generation of kids. It follows the story of Grace, a young orphan who was never adopted so she runs off to be an apprentice to a mysterious witch in the woods. But she has no idea what kind of mess she has gotten herself into. The Grace of Wild Things is a great book for preteens and teens who are going through their witch phase. Some of us never leave that phase and we are all the better for it.
4. The Girl Who Drank The Moon

The Girl Who Drank The Moon is a beautifully written fairytale about a young girl who is raised by a kindly witch who feeds her moonlight. When she turns thirteen, she obtains magical powers and chaos threatens to destroy the land around her. This is a wonderful story for the kids and preteens who still believe in magic and will always believe in magic.
3. Seraphina and the Black Cloak
Written by Robert Beatty
Seraphina and the Black Cloak follows the story of a young girl who lives in the basement of the legendary Biltmore estate. As she hides from the owners of the magnificent home, she uncovers the truth behind who she really is. This story is perfect for kids and preteens who love a good mystery.
2. The Thief of Time: A Magical Fantasy Adventure

A little word of warning. This book is for teenagers and only teenagers. There is some mature language and themes throughout that book. Venomous is a great book for teens who may be struggling with mental health problems or may have trouble fitting it. It tells the story of Locke Vinetti, a kind-natured boy who struggles with anger problems. He is able to manage his anger with the help of his friends, family, and therapist.
